Although touching on a religious subject, I've posted this in Chit-Chat because it's humorous. Taken from a skit about Texas by Jeff Foxworthy.

Cowboy's Ten Commandments posted on the wall at Cross Trails Church in Fairlie , Texas :

(1) Just one God.
(2) Honor yer Ma & Pa.
(3) No telling tales or gossipin'.
(4) Git yourself to Sunday meeting.
(5) Put nothin' before God.
(6) No foolin' around with another fellow's gal.
(7) No killin'.
(8) Watch yer mouth.
(9) Don't take what ain't yers..
(10) Don't be hankerin' for yer brother's stuff

Sorry to disappoint you but cattle and other livestock do not rest on Sunday.
They did not get the Word.

Cowboys are needed only for ‘free range’ cattle - not having ever been one, I’m not sure how many are needed to watch them when aren’t moving. In any case, observing the Sabbath is included in #4.

Grew up on a ranch. Guess what there are more than free range cattle on a ranch, at least the ones I knew and what I lived on.
TV, tourist traps and movies are not even close to reality.
In addition to cattle we had a milk cow, about 30 chickens in a large enclosure, usually 3-4 pigs even about 10 sheep for the wool which we sheared and had blankets etc. made. Still have one of those blankets.
My grandfather on his ranch also had lots of peacocks that flew around and made eerie cries in the late evening from the heavily treed area.

The cowboys this lingo came from moved steers {neutered males} from Texas to railroads, usually in Kansas, but you can interpret it any way you want to.

‘The Sabbath’ goes along with #4 in any case - which is all I said.
