Cindy,

If I have a problem finding specifications or getting information on equipment I am looking at to possibly buy, I phone Adorama or B&H and ask to speak to someone in the appropriate department. I have always found them to be knowledgable on their products.

PIXMA PRO-100 by Canon will do what you need.
Rebates get it down to $350...but I picked mine up on sale for $100.

I have a PIXMA PRO-100 and I love it, but I have the space.

Hunt's camera has some Canon Pro 10 printer with a good rebate. The printer is no longer in production, but it is an excellent printer. I have used mine for many years. Check it out. https://www.huntsphotoandvideo.com

The OP stated that he has looked at this printer but deemed it was too large for his workspace.

Have you done a head cleaning? run the head cleaning utility and then do a test print and repeat several times until the test is successful

I have used an Epson Artisan 1430 for several years and was happy with it but it has now gone into serious decline - it no longer prints colour anywhere near what it is supposed to be based on colour print charts.

My monitor is calibrated and I use calibration photo paper etc etc.

I'm looking for a good quality home photo printer. I've looked at the semi-pro CanonPro 10's and 100's but they are too large for my use - and probably overkill.

I've ended up thinking about the Canon Pixma TS8560 or the TS9160. Unfortunately Canon don't really say what the difference between them is or anything useful at all really beyond glossy advertisements and I've tried contacting Canon but no answer so far.

I want a printer that will reproduce my insect macro shots so that I can catalogue them for reference. The reproducibility has to be good enough so I can go through my references and agree/disagree on identity. I'm not after something that will display for a studio, I'm not interested in 'snapshots' , I am an amateur scientist who wants good realistic photo reproducibility and not from a 70kg printer.

Does anyone have any recommendations or thoughts?

Thank you and keep safe

Cindy

I have the PIXMA 100 for my photography photos, but also a Canon PIXMA TS6220. It is 14"
X 20" and weighs almost nothing. It costs $169 on Amazon right now, we paid less when on sale. It is a good little printer/scanner. The prints are clear, not what I would use for my good photos, but more than enough I think for what you want them for. Good luck.

I am also needing a new printer and am looking at the BenQ SW2700pt. Don't know your price point, but this one is about $600. Wish it would go on sale.

If you are going to print up to 5 by 7s or if you are going to only print 8 by 10s, I would look for a dye sub printer. They are a little more expensive but, and it's a big but for me; you can print once a month without wasting ink cleaning the print head. My DNP sits in the closet for months on end; but when I need prints, it is ready to go.

Hello Cindy;
Just curious, Why do you want to go from Epson to Canon? I have always thought that Epson is a top of the Line Printer. Of course so is Canon. I Have a HP Office-jet Pro 8610, which presently will not Print from my Laptop, so, as I am not a Technical guy, I either need to find someone that can assist me getting my Wireless Printing working once again, I have had 2 friends make attempts, with NO success.

Thank You everyone for some extremely useful advice.

Just to clarify. I do a lot of Macro-photography of spiders and I catalogue my finds in my reference system for future identification and educational purposes so I am printing often and I want clear precise pics that I can use later.
Certainly and I will emphasise that monitor calibration is critical as is alignments and cleaning etc. Unfortunately I think that my trusty Artisan just got an extreme case of arachnophobia and gave up the fight.

Thank you again.
