I am considering a GoPro Hero 8 camera for bike riding with my grandkids. I will also use it for hiking and kayaking and possibly on horseback.
Any suggestions or comments + or-?
Thanks - Gary
Second that. The Hero8 is currently $100 off. Definitely use the GoPro App, and the Plus subscription gets you unlimited Cloud storage.
Have fun...
Don’t worry about the camera too much...
Well the GoPro is more for video, although it can take pictures as well, the sensor is tiny and it is 12M only. Even for video it tends to get hot for 4k recording.
I’d take a look at Olympus OMD-E 5 Mark III, Olympus TG-6 for more “traditional “ cameras and Sony FDR-X3000 (
https://www.sony.com/electronics/actioncam/fdr-x3000-body-kit) For more of an “action” camera.
Might want to compare it with the dji Action Camera. I’m very pleased with mine.

They will never replace a DSLR! BUT I also say, go for it! They are small, they have many accessories and features. They extremely tough and waterproof. (How many DSLRs can fall 10,000 feet and still work). The IQ very is good. There are so many things you can do with them. You will take it where you would never take a DSLR. Another plus is the cost is low, relative speaking. I own 3 and use them a lot. NOTE: I have one with an internal battery that is time limited in use because having to recharge the camera battery (lot of down time) Big advantage is replaceable Batteries with extra batteries. Good luck and enjoy.
Thanks, everyone, all good tips. I have Nikon DSLR's with video capability, but I can't mount any of them on my kayak or ski helmet. Tripod mount works great and/or handheld. When I order I will also get an extra battery.
Be safe and have fun!

I like to mount mine low from the middle of the wheel looking back if that's where the grandkids are or forward if that's where they are.
Thanks, billnikon The kids usually ride ahead of us for safety reasons. I have tried a video with my iPhone on the holder on the handlebars, but vibration can be a problem as well as the phone battery. I will probably order several mounts. I have a Bike Friday with a rack on the back that will make a good rear mount. My wife and I can put them in the middle.
Have fun and be Safe

Daughter and Son in Law have the Go Pro 8 and use it scuba diving, hiking, motorcycling, skydiving. It is durable, compact and has accessories. Great little camera for the price. I am sure you can find a used one cheap if money is tight.
Thanks I am looking at the GoPro 8 Black

You might want to also look at the Olympus TG-Tracker. Very wide angle I believe of 220°. It is a part of their tough series.
