I still like the first one better. First one looks more natural. The second one looks artificial. My 2¢.
Thanks for stopping by and giving me your thoughts. I usually fight with myself on where to place an item when doing a composite.
This looks really good, it is not an easy thing to create, so keep trying, don't give up. I love your concept of the woman walking under giant mushrooms. I do have a few suggestions, if you don't mind.
I would suggest darkening the lighter areas in the image. The white areas brings my eyes to that area first. It looks like it is the background you used, maybe try another background. There are many free ones online or make your own.
The wasp and the woman are sharp but the mushrooms are not. They are large so it becomes more obvious to me that they are not sharp.
I encourage you to play with creating images. It helps to get suggestions how to improve. While I have done composites for years, I am still learning to match the lighting on my composites.
What a super concept Frank, love it, especially the second version. My only nitpick would be depth of field differences but you know enough about this lark not to need telling that by me! What I would say is it’s such a good concept it might be worth a second try?
Thank you very much for your suggestions Ronichas They all seem to be very valid. I tried blurring out the ground layer as to match the mushroom stems. I originally blurred the women, but I was not fond of the look. Perhaps I may have gone too far on the blur. I purposely used radial gradient behind the mushroom as a radiant light. But I can see how darkening the front would work better.
I realize it is a long road to leaning composites, but the trip is a lot of fun.

Yeah I understand, I have not given up on this image. Everyone has been very helpful. Different people with different experiences are invaluable to me. I think it helps me grow in this area
Here's a suggestion, edges that don't look cutout.

Thanks, I'll take that under advisement.

You are a good man. Suggestion was given for someone who would take it in a spirit of positivity.
I am sure you use masks. Take advantage of feathering.

Thanks again. I went back in and did see a spot or two to clean up. I m sure there are others that I missed. I actually swapped out the woman for a girl. An Alice in Wonderland Feel. Or at least I hope so.
Ok thanks everybody for your ideas and thoughts. Here is my final take on this composite. I swapped out the woman for the girl. To give it a bit of a Alice in Wonderland feel. Or at least I hope so. I blurred the wasp and girl to go along with the blurred mushroom stem. And a bit of a clean up on the edges of the mushroom.
Really nice Frank. Composites can certainly be fun
