May I suggest a new name for this Thread:..... TRICK Photography or 'Photo-Manuplination'

With all due respect SuperFly,,,,
...... You Can NOT read... or You don't want to read.. or you just want to 'argue'

Many, many times, I have agreed that editing part of the 'nature' of the field of Photography...

..... Even Ansel Adams did it,,,, BUT, Ansel Adams made his techniques of the 'Zones System' known to all... and what I am professing is that 'if you change photos to the point where the 'final view' totally 'mis-represents' the actual scene as it was taken, that is 'Trick Photography' ... and if you don't disclose 'Trickery' then, that is a LIE...."

I have never,,,,, and I repeat NEVER, said editing is NOT allowed.... I am calling out 'Deception' like when someone 'changes a sky' in Luminar,,, or they 'Put a moon' in a picture over Spaceship Earth @ Disney... and the "ART" and 'Trickery' if the creator does not disclose that... The 'Absents of Disclosure' is the 'Same as a Lie'

.. In many instances, 'editing' renders a photo 'close' to what was seen by the creator....
.. In some instances editing is obvious and does NOT need to be explained to the viewer...
.. and in some instances, editing is done in a 'deceptive manor' which is called 'Photo-Manipulation '

Such 'Manipulation' for the purpose of the 'Creator of the ART' is to lead the viewer into thinking that something is just so wonderful' and the makes the photographer think they are the 'most wonderful thing since sliced bread...'...........i.e. that is what is called 'Deception' and that is what I am 'calling out'

I have never, never said 'editing' is wrong........ what I said is that 'DECEPTION' is wrong... If you change something and 'the change is NOT part of the 'view' of the 'original' shot.... Don't take credit for 'something you are NOT....... It is Created ART (Trickery)........ and anyone with a camera, a computer and photoshop can do...

Someone with 'Photoshop Editing Skills' is entirely different and, it takes less talent, than someone who can actually 'meticulously' plan out a very unique shot which 'a unique moment in time...' which take much, much more time, and skills that someone who just uses a computer and photoshop...

Anyone can learn photoshop

With all due respect, I hope that this 'clarifies' my position on 'Trickery' and 'Mis-Representation' with it be a 'different sky' in Luminar..... or a 'added moon' put in using photoshop...

Cheers

Saturation is part of the interpretation. It may be a bit heavy for your liking but others might find it super nice. Note the photographer didn't put anything in the scene that wasn't there. Saturation, burning, and dodging are all done to items in the scene.

Nice captures but a little heavy on the saturation in PP.

To SuperFly and others on this thread... I would offer the below
-------------------------------

.... Photo-manipulation involves transforming or altering a photograph using various methods and techniques to achieve desired results. Some photo manipulations are considered skillful artwork while others are frowned upon as unethical practices, especially when used to deceive the public.
--------------------------------
........... The above key words are ... "to deceive the public'

Like Bob said....... When you 'add' to the image, to alter the 'original viewed scene' that is Manupliation
....... and what I am saying is that 'Manipulation' without 'full disclosure' is deceptive and a LIE

I am heartily sick and tired of this thread!! It has degenerated into a string of ad hominem attacks and has become a personal battle instead of a civil discussion of a worthwhile topic, the nature of artistic license versus artistic truthfulness. Can we move on?

Liberal use of the 'unwatch' link at the upper left of every page greatly improves the site ...

--------------------------------------------------... (show quote)

Removing something from a photo is also “manipulation” as you call it. Photographers do it all the time. How is that any different than adding something? Even your oversaturation is “manipulation”. You’re adding color that didn’t exist.
I also have to come clean. I was dishonest. I said your over saturated birds were a “good capture”. Truthfully it’s a good thing you didn’t upload the originals. They’re not nearly sharp enough to stand up to it.
