Hi all! Recently been using my Canon XF305 camcorder to shoot nature e.g., birds, squirrels, groundhogs, deer, etc running in the backyard. I discovered that this camera can do stills by mistake. Guessing that's how many fantastic photos are created. I like to get some additional information about improving the picture process using the Canon XF305, and any len(s) that may be used to enhance the photography experience. My background is in cinema video recording, but this new discovery has a greater expectation for further review. I welcome all communications that will help me to improve on this new project using a video camera for photography

I am no expert on this topic, but I read that the XF305 can capture stills at 1920 x 1080 - roughly 2MP size files. Cameras shooting 4K video can capture stills at 3840 x 2160, or roughly 8MP. I don't think 1920 x 1080 size is very useful, with the possible exception of posting on the web.
Dan,
Thank you for your swift reply. The beauty of Canon XF305 is that I can adjust the camera's size to fit shooting platform. While I have only touched a small portion of using the XF305 for use in Photography, I have beautiful photos in each of the format sizes. I will upload them for others to see. Since most of the work I do involves video formatting, editing, content, etc the use of Adobe CC platform further allows me to color grade easily due to the codex used in the camera being 4.2.2.
I was hoping to find someone who may have used the Canon XF305 for pictures only to provide me with some additional insights on shooting platform related to custom pictures setting and len(s). I used the current set custom presets for video work and was blown away by the crisp images.
