Girl and Tree - Experiment 2

This lass has had images of her posted before ( "At Sunrise" ). Here we see her as we were leaving the beach and we passed by a rather ugly-looking old tree. We agreed that it would be a fun photo to have her lean up against the tree to generate a kind of contrast. This photo has been previously posted but this is a better-quality and and full-frame version, scanned at 3600 lines per inch so you can see all the grain and even show where someone tried to saw off one of the tree branches. This is another of my circa 1980 or so PlusX photos. Remember Dektol ? Those were the days !

Great shot and wonderful natural model from "back in the day". I must be getting old, my mind spend more time wondering how a tree ever grew there to get to that size and looking for the saw mark! But my eyes started and ended with the model, so all in all a good journey.

Dektol?....stop bath, fixer all the good smells in the darkroom. lol. I sure do remember it and miss it. They were fun days. I had to abandon mine cause the town wanted to charge me additional taxes after a reassessment as if it were another bedroom, in the basement. Jeeezzz

I’m trying to see it with her legs against the tree eliminating the gap...making her more “one with the tree”.

Very interesting compositionally. Soft tones to accompany the model. Yes, I remember Dektol quite well. That was my print developer. I also used Microdol-X for negatives. That is until Kodak quit making some films in the format I used. At that point, I moved to Ilford for both film and chemistry. I still use Kodak Fixer, though. Love the aroma.

Bob: Forgot about Microdol. But those those chemistries were 40-ish years ago !! So I spose it's understandable to forget. I gave away my enlarger and associated apparatus to a local camera club ten or so years ago. But the films are intact :-) The scanner does a fine job nowadays, maybe better than the enlarger did. And once digitized I can get rid of some flaws. - JimT

Now, that's my idea of a "tree hugger".

I have 5 enlargers sitting in the lab at the moment. Although my need to make prints is considerably reduced, I've no plans on getting rid of any of them. I still shoot film, and quite often. I have two Jobo processors that I use exclusively for film development. After that, I scan what I want to process. If I do want the odd print from time to time, I have a friend who does digital printing and framing. I'm more than happy with the results. It seems the cost of paper has really exceeded the practical cost of making a print. I'll still do it, but only if someone asks me to and then willing to pay the exorbitant fee I'd charge to do so. I'll probably get back to printing someday in the future but I'm not in a real rush to do so.
