I have used Picasa for years. I still have it and use it. My problem is that each time I open it ,the programs adds folders to the library which make for multiple copies of files. Do you know how I can stop this and only have new files and folder copied to the library. Also does anyone know how to delete multiple files at one time?

I have the same thing with my iMac
There is a utility on the iMac that will remove duplicate files(but damned if I can remember what it is or where to find it)
However I use it 3-4 times a year.

You can control what is included in Picasa by going to 'Tools', then select 'Folder Manager'. There you have choices of Scan Once, Remove from Picasa, Scan Always. You can do this to any folder(s). See attached graphic

That is exactly why I no longer have Picasa on any of my computers, even though I really liked a few of its capabilities.

See the comments directly above yours, Kathy. You are in charge of what is scanned, not Picasa

I actually did findthat out before removing Picasa. And I didn't actually remove it. As computers died, I simply didn't replace it. What I did enjoy about it was its ability to make slide presentations that would run on any computer anywhere. I still miss that.

What Linda said...

Also be aware that Picasa does not create copies of your images. I just maintains a "database" pointing to the images.

Lenfagen,
By multiple files do you mean multiple individual photos or multiple file folders?

I use Picasa as a backup for certain features only. I always "delete from Picasa" any remaining folders when entering a new one. I can't say why I did that, I just didn't want it cluttered. I DON'T use Picasa to organize my photos.

When I turn on Picasa a window in the lower right corner shows folders being copied. When I check my library I find many duplicate folders. If I try to delete them from the disk it is a long process because I can't delete a batch. I must delete them one at a time. I tried to turn on duplicate only once and will check to see if this will help stop the duplicates from loading. I appreciate all your help.

Click Tools->Options->General and check the "Detect duplicates while importing" checkbox. This should prevent any further duplicates.

Most pictures backup to three hard disks. Use Picasa for some quick editing.
