I recently posted a story regarding my displeasure with eBay because they reused to refund my money for an item I never received.
Well I believe in giving credit where credit is due. After sending them a note explaining my thoughts on the situation, they almost immediately wrote back to tell me they had reversed their decision and I received a credit on my American Express this morning. It certainly makes me feel much more comfortable in doing business with them in the future.
big rich and powerful doesn't make you immune from the occasional oppsie, not does it mean that you don't, on occasion, have to 'humble up,' admit your mistake, and do the best you can to fix it.
glad to hear that things worked out for you

Heads-Up! I bought a Nikon Z6 from a private owner and had to pay $125.00 tax. If I sell it on eBay I will have to pay them 10%. When it's time to upgrade again I will probably look for another way to sell.
If you use American Express, call them first. They have taken care of me since 1994.

Person to person sales are usually tax free. Are you sure you weren't scammed?

The rules have changed since the Supreme Court’s decision that the seller has to follow state laws in collecting sales tax.

Thank you for the follow-up and your honesty & fair-mindedness are a virtue and set a high example for decency. Bravo.
It looks like eBay is following the business model of some insurance companies...deny, deny, deny. My wife had a similar problem after canceling an order through eBay within the allotted 24 hours. She repeatedly documented her emails canceling and asking for verification but no response except message saying the product was being shipped in the not distant future. eBay refused to credit her account so she turned it over to the credit card company. Turned out it was one of those Chinese company scams where they send a cheap useless item in place of the thing ordered so they can claim they shipped the ordered item. She refused delivery of the cheap useless item (a USB cord) and still eBay insisted they would not credit her account. Meanwhile the Bank Card company did investigate, credited her account, and so advised eBay. She has since cancelled her eBay account.

I think eBay is responsible for collecting the tax no matter the seller. In time of deficit spending they are taxing the same product over and over again.
Really sorry to hear of your wife’s troubles with eBay.my case is much simpler. it only took one email explaining my position for them to credit my account. They noted that the item was probably stolen which I believe is the case. That or the USPS somehow delivered it to a wrong address and whomever got it kept it.

No he is not scammed
That is one reason I don't use E bay anymore I live in Canada and they charge me import duties and taxes on everything they send me no matter how old or how used it is I have no idea who gets the money but I can bet that it is not the government
Ebay is now called a "Market enabler" Which means they will apply sales tax to every product. They will do it even though they never handle the product. This applies even to person to person sales.
As someone pointed out it means that many items will be taxed over and over again.
Say goodbye to Ebay unless you are a commercial seller.

If you buy through Ebay, they will collect the required state taxes, and pass them on. If you buy from someone privately(IE:Craigslist) then you will not pay taxes. It is not a scam. It is the law.
