I have my camera gear—primarily my cameras and lenses—covered under my home owners policy. They are individually listed and I pay an additional fee for that. I can’t even tell you how much but the piece of mind is priceless.

My stuff is covered by State Farm at full value against loss, theft, and damage that renders any/all pieces inoperable - even damage inflicted by my stupidity.

If I may ask how much?

Maybe it's a planted ad, maybe not. My experience with State Farm has been fantastic. They were very caring, helpful, and (I thought), very fair. Change agents or claims representatives. That can make a great difference.

I suspect most homeowner or renter policies can cover camera gear. My policy is with Oregon Mutual. I’ve had a policy with them for over fifty years! What more can I say.

I found that in insurance, good or bad depends almost as much as your agent. Some look out for you and serve you and some don't.

I don’t think PPA membership is limited to professionals even though it’s part of their name. PPA does. The point I’m making is that their Membership includes a free equipment policy up to 15,000 but with three stages of deductibles per pear - $250 for the first, 500 for second, etc. it doesn’t cover gear stolen out your unlocked vehicle nor mysterious disappearance. Their bigger policy for a fee covers those situations, has only one deductible - $250. I’ve had two incidents and I was paid the full amount of my coverage that I list per item (Purchase price of course) and I was paid quickly.

I must agree with roger....I have Statefarm and have used them twice and service was great and checks came in the mail in a few days. The payment was for the going price for what it cost at today's prices.

This looks like a planted advertisement for state Farm not a very good insurance company. Try and file a claim and see how they try to give you as little as possible. State Farm and Farmers are two of the worst insurance companies around.

This is not true. I've filed twice on my former "personal articles" policy, which is my photography gear policy that is separate from my homeowners -- not an addendum as some think. State Farm paid in full the original cost of my gear, not the current replacement value, and without question or any haggling whatsoever. However, a few months after my second loss, State Farm canceled the policy.

I also have State Farm for homeowners as I said, and for auto. I've never filed a homeowners claim but I've had two auto, one for a vehicle totaled in a flash flood and one for around $1,500 in vandalism. State Farm paid the claims in full -- promptly, without any arguments, as it did my camera gear (and no cancellation of the auto policy).

So while I'm still pissed at them for cancelling my camera policy, I'm generally happy with State Farm, which in my area has the lowest auto rates for a household with a teen-aged driver.

Replacement Cost Coverage
We'll pay the cost to repair or replace your personal property, without deduction for depreciation up to the applicable limit. The personal articles policy insures against theft and accidental direct physical damage to covered property with some limitations and exclusions.
Inflation Coverage
The amount of coverage is automatically adjusted annually based on the Consumer Product inflation index. Valuable items should be professionally reappraised regularly.

I have a business policy with Allstate Insurance. I have an agent from Utah who specializes in insuring photographers. I have a full coverage policy that includes losses and liability. Fortunately I haven't had to file any claims. But he's honest and a great guy to deal with. Here's how to reach him:
