How's this for a brief "Backyard Encounter"? That's one Curious Critter! He was Big as well as Bold, almost 5 ft. long. I closed to within 3 feet, then he started a 'slow' retreat. This happened 60 ft. from my back door; and I don't live in a 'rural' area!
Gotta Love Livin' in South Florida!

I'm glad it doesn't live in my back yard and I'm sure it's glad it doesn't either. Nice pics.

Lovely vegetarian! Non-native but since it doean't eat meat it is more tolerable than Cuban tree frogs which eat our cute natives.

Yikes! It’s funny but the scale and foliage doesn’t make it look like a 5 foot critter.

Nice set. I just read an article on these invasive lizards. Not nearly as harmful as the Burmese Python but they are slightly harmful in that they compete for the food of native species.

You cant see the tail, it was concealed by the foliage.

The Florida Division of Wildlife has urged Floridians to "kill these whenever possible" because of "damage to sidewalks, seawalls, and domestic vegetation". The damage must be from burrowing?

They roost in trees. They seem to prefer Poinciana for the foliage & they prefer Hibiscus for food. Never seen any burrows.

"Iguana Land, Fl." is my imaginary name for this area of N.W. Miami-Dade County. It's an urban neighborhood.
