So I had the most wonderful evening and morning with this daddy fox and his 5 babies!
Not usually a problem, but I have so many photos of the dad that I like, I'm having a hard time figuring out what makes the best photo. I still have more! Comments welcome, downloads are best!
There will be many more posts with him interacting with the kits and the kits themselves!
I'm going to tell you I think all are good considering you were photographing a wild animal. What distance were you from him?
Really supurb work, Photolady. I really like 2 and 6 but all of them are super.

How to decide between excellent and fabulous? I stared by going through over and over trying to rule some out. I ruled out 1 & 2, because the background of the non-outdoor looking background, although I liked 2 more. I ruled out 3 due to background and not showing fox at his best. I ruled out 4 & 7 due to the grass but that could be easily remedied. That left me with 5 & 6. # 6 is awful cute, but in #5 he looks wise and confident, even with his tongue sticking out. I think of foxes as being extremely intelligent, so I'm picking #5. They are all fabulously excellent, Beth.

It varied from 30 feet to 100. They were used to cars and people as the den was right next to the road whistle was quite convenient! I used Canon 100-400 & 1.4 extender and a Tamron 150-600.

Holy smokes! Amazing pictures! The details of the fur & the lighting are outstanding.
Thanks, I was going to go back tonight, but is is a bit overcast.
I have to say I like them all
I like 2,4,& 5 ...., that being said ...I love all of them .., fun to play with in some of the exotic post editing Programs ...
Okay, I like #1 and #3 the most. I like the backlighting in the first plus it shows more of his body. #3 has a nice background that hints at his environment, and he looks natural, not checking you out so much. He looks kinda old and tired!--guess the Dads out there could tell me why. You are fortunate to have such a handsome subject as your neighbor. I'd want to quit my job and devote myself full-time to photographing him.
Wow, great set. Looks like he enjoyed posing for you.

Thanks for the great description as to what you like! It is so nice to know what others like as well as what I like!
I don't care for #1 or #2, with the black, dropped backgrounds. I'd rather see a natural setting... even if it's a bit "messy".
#3 is an excellent profile portrait. Lovely light and great natural background with strong blur.
#4 is a wonderful "head and shoulders" portrait... nice "environmental" background, too.
#5 shows personality and activity.
#6 is very nice "tight" portrait.
#7 is a lovely "full length" portrait, made nicer by the environmental background and surroundings.
I like #3 through #7 pretty equally. They are all quite good and simply are different ways of framing the subject and/or relating them to their surroundings. To me #3 through #7 are all much better than #1 and #2.
#1 and #2 appear to be different crops of the same image... I do like the fox's expression... I just don't like the look of the blacked out background. It makes me wonder what was so bad that was necessary. If it had been me and there was something so bad in the background that I had to replace it with something, I'd have looked for something more natural or possibly even gone out and photographed some backgrounds to use. The other images can give some guidance about location, ideal lighting and what looks nicest.
