Yes, after reading a few sad experiences of "Dropped Cameras" I invested in a relatively inexpensice "Hand Strap", which when walking around wirh my camera, I have confidence it will not fall and get broken. Check Ebay, there are many choices.

You're welcome...

If you have any questions about them I've used their services several times.

Based on a previous posting of yours, I sent my 35mm f/2 Nikkor to Authorized Camera Repair on May 11. Matt responded very promptly to my request for a repair cost estimate and the estimate he provided was very reasonable. Thanks for the recommendation.

When I fell, I thought, glad I had taken it off my neck, if I was going to fall. Who knows where it would have hit me tied around my neck.

I dropped my Leica M9 with a 50 mm Leica lens. had it mounted on a arca swiss type plate I picked up the tripod, camera, and all put it on my shoulder like I would carry a rifle. The camera slipped through the grooves on the plate and hit on the front corner of the lens on the pavement. I wasn't happy but Leica camera repaired the lens and camera. for few dollars plus or minus a few hundred. point I learned was to carry the camera by its self and don't trust the plates.

I always use a strap when picking up or using a camera or binoculars. Remember how expensive your equipment is and how cheaply and easily it can be protected.

Never leave home without a neck strap, and use it all the time. I have gone by that rule forever.

Yea, I have a Black Rapid neck strap. But, it uses the tripod screw. I had removed it to use my tripod.

Thank you for correcting my grammar and my spelling. Although it is hindsight, I prefer a wrist strap to protect my camera. You can also purchase an inexpensive rubber wrap around for your camera. It may not do a great job causing your camera to bounce but it allows you to have a better grip on it. One suggestion. Please don't leave your camera attached to the tripod and both slung over your shoulder. All to often the camera "snaps" off the tripod and damaging the bottom plate.

Be Well. Stay Safe!
Happy Shooting!

Same reason, when using a heavy lens, you hold the lens and NOT the camera body. I have actually seen a lens mount partially break off from the camera body due to the lens weight. Physics IS NOT always your friend.

I am glad to hear that after falling from the tripod your camera and lens are still working fine. Mine didn't fall quite that far and I THINK they work just fine too. BUT BUT BUT when now and again I see a somewhat questionable image I get the doubting willies. . . . .

Thanks! My lens arrived today in perfect condition. I can screw on filters again. I took a few test shots. It seems to be focusing faster too. I re-attached my camera strap. haha!

Oh heck yeah. Just the past February, it seems so long ago now, we took a trip to Maui with our extended family. We were preparing to go on a whale watching cruise when I heard a horrible clatter and a collective groan from all of the people around me (this was pre-distancing). I apparently didn't have my neck strap on and let go of the camera. I'm still not sure exactly what happened but the bottom line is the camera hit the floor and the battery door actually came off and the battery went flying. I managed to put it all back together and all is still fine. I dodged a bullet.

At the time when the crowd was still groaning and I was flushing with embarrassment. I made a comment about how maybe it was broken and I could get a new camera I had my eye on. Mine is getting old. Like me. Anyway, it happens to all of us eventually. I dropped my new Canon 100mm macro lens too. It came out fine too excepting a smashed clear glass skylight filter. Bottom line, if you're camera is working fine after the drop don't worry about it. Count your blessings.

Congratulations!
Now all you need to do is attach the camera strap to the tripod and you are safe to go. . . . .LOL . . .

I haven't, but my grandson (1 year old) knocked over my tripod last week-end and the camera hit the concrete porch. I didn't see it happen, just heard it. Someone beat me to it and picked it up so I didn't even get to see how it landed. I just know it still works. I am truly blessed. Can't believe I turned my back on the camera on the tripod with an almost 3 year old and a 13 month old running loose. Sony a7riii with 24-105 lens.
