Amen to Dan Phillips, you are right on. Just compare those kids ( of which I was one) back in the 40's - 50's with the lovely children of today.A good paddling never did anything but improve a lot of attitudes. I taught for 30 years and lived thru the increase in lousy attitudes; parental control fail, and to me it all started with the Vietnam war era. Don't try to tell me that these kids and schools of today are better or at the least as good as the past. Our educational system stinks; its loaded with liberals who were taught by liberals and have that great "touchy/feely" attitude. And just so you know more money put into education doesn't help; guess what does?.....................?

Incidentally, none of this has much to do with being a CPA. Yes, being a CPA does sometimes means doing bookkeeping - but the arithmetic is often left to a bookkeeper, and we have machines to do the arithmetic. The heart of being a CPA involves being a good accountant, which means knowing which arithmetic has to be done, and what to do with the results.
Look at the so called modern math system, does it really make sense? I don't think so!

Maybe not to a ‘layman’.
I have a degree in math, and frankly it does.

There is a big difference in beating and Godly discipline! I have seen and felt the difference in both, most children have no respect for themselves, parents, civil authority, teachers or God. We see the good, bad and the ugly everyday.
Prayer has never solved anything ever, and "Godly discipline", if you have actually read and comprehended
the Bible, is most vicious and vindictive , it is certainly not anything to tout or recommend.

Yeah, it all went to hell we we stopped morning prayer and stooped beating children.
You certainly sound like a common core grad. BTW what is stooped beating children supposed to mean, genius?

"Godly" discipline is not vicious and vindictive. Vicious and vindictive are two words antithetical to Godliness.
How talking about math and CPA's ever morphed into this type of discussion I have no earthly idea.

The God of the Bible is IS a viscous vindictive genocidal sociopath, to say other is to say you haven't read the Bible, if you are an apologist for those events the I feel sorry for you
Someday, you will totally disagree with the statement you have made about God, prayer an oh yes, you forgot grace!

Our school systems are defunct, got lost when they took the prayer and the paddle out!
I graduated from HS in 1961, and never had school prayer or corporal punishment. And this was in a very bible belt town.
I pray for everyone, it is one my privilege's! If I offended anyone with the truth, so be it.

It's beginning to look like you never learned to read, eh ? He actually did spell STOPPED correctly.

Back in the day dad would, (and mom too), on rare occasion, give us kids a good smack or three on the hind side but we had to have made some pretty serious transgressions for that to happen. Far more fanfare than any actual pain. Far cry from being a beating. In most cases it was the lengthy lectures about knowing right from wrong and our transgressions we dreaded the most. Nowadays it's more about getting your kids on the right med's to deal with their issues. Good parenting starts in the home, not in a clinic after it's to late.
