I had a horse like that, too. Worked cattle, great on trail rides, would carry three kids at once and never act up. I could rope and shoot from his back, too. I feel your pain, Cindy. Good luck finding a replacement.

Thanks....we never worked cattle but I have shot off of his back in hunting season...he has dragged deer, elk and moose as well as packed meat out of the woods.....loves to swim and play in the water as well.

This is why I call him my Big boy - I'm 5'4" and always have to find a stump or hill to get up on him from!

Have you considered taking him along with you when riding the other horse? Or is his limitation more than just someone on him?

It's more than just someone on him...he can't bend his knee up enough to go on the trails...all the trails around here are steep or rocky or both. He trips just walking thru the pasture. He will be loved and babied for the rest of his life...he deserves that! I will have to find a companion horse that will stay with him when we go for a few weeks at a time.

I had some friends with a retired race horse. The pony horse that they had used for years went blind. Suddenly the race horse was "leading" the pony horse! The two lived together in a paddock for more than a decade. And if he continues to get attention from you, he should be able to "settle" for that life.

How awesome was that! We have our special time when we play each day...he likes to play tug of war with a special rope that we use and get this...he likes to play hide and seek behind trees....literally....he will get behind a tree and peak around the tree at you...when he sees you...he pulls his head back behind the tree and lets out a knicker...it's hilarious and so much fun!

Got some nice pics of Rudy today...this big guy has taken care of me for the last 15 years...he turned 19 a few weeks ago and the arthritis in his knee is to the point now that we can no longer go on rides together. He was upset today because my hubby took Major out for a ride with another friend. I am in the process of looking for another horse and I know there is no way I will come close to finding one as sweet as this guy.

Lovely images, sad about his knee.
