you vocalized the problem. No one is providing context or qualification of the data. Lousy situation. Typical bad reporting. When i went to college, generally the most stupid students majored in journalism. Mind you i've known some outstanding journalists, too. But one would think the most basic of actions in reporting would be to qualify data and put it in context.

There is no disputing the fact that the vast majority of cv pluses are asymptomatic. Also, it is a fact that if a positive dies, for any reason, they are included in the death toll. I've heard several docs on TV mention that they thought that was dopey.

I just want to know the REAL numbers (qualified data and context). Its the engineer in me.

I can only report that the Indiana death toll includes only people for whom the attending physician felt that the virus contributed to the death. Like the flu, ‘contribute’ can mean stressing the whole system until it fails, but I have no details.

Listen pal, I have forgotten more virology than someone like you or 99% of the general population will ever possibly know. And my comments are based on practical experience in a wide range of clinical settings, something that you clearly do not possess and not listening to the contradictory and often incorrect bullshit spewed out by so called "experts" and our lying through their teeth "media". The media and many of these "experts" have a political agenda and medicine should NEVER be politicized. When I was still going to school at UNC in the mid to late 70's for my micro degree I worked at the (then) pharmaceutical company Burroughs Wellcome, Ltd for Dr. George Hitchings, who won the Nobel in Medicine in 1988. I worked with him on the drug Zovirax (Acyclovir) which was designed to combat Herpes Simplex Viral infections. Back then it was only indicated for ocular infections but has since been approved for a wide range of Herpes Simplex Infections. If George were still alive to day he would be expressing the very same sentiments I am. Irrespective of his credentials, Fauci is an idiot in search of a village and his statements are testament to it. He should have gotten canned long before any this ever happened. I have signed no fewer than three petitions calling for his immediate dismissal.

"I have forgotten more virology than someone like you or 99% of the general population [I]will ever possibly know".
Seriously?
As if you knew what I, or 99% of the population actually knows! It only plays to an audience of one; you.
It comes off as 'chest pounding'.
The only reasonable point that you made is regarding DR. Fauci, on which point, we agree. Also, fatalities of many respiratory illness are being reported as Covid-19 deaths, and unnecessary use of ventilators are all driven by monetary reasons, not medical. As a side note, a member my family survived Covid-19 at 55 years old; said the Flu was a 'cakewalk' compared to symptoms he had, and the 10 days hospitalized, 5 of them in ICU were "Horrific" .
BTW, my mother was a charge nurse specializing in infectious disease, one sister is a Histologist; the other is a researcher for a national Bio-Medical company, so I too have access to information. Nonetheless, I'm OK with you believing that I'm just an Ignorant 'picture taker', when you "Consider the Source".

When we have a POS that encourages violence against Latinos, immigrants, Muslim-American, African-Americans, and now Asians, and other minority and marginalized groups, it incites the white supremacists and other hate groups to attack them physically. When he, and you, call it the "Chinese flu", those people who have Asian faces, whether Americans or not, are at risk. Simple fact.

As far as being "PC BS" I always thought those people who cry "PC" were really trying to justify being homophobic, xenophobic, racist, misogynistic, bigoted, fanatical, hateful, chauvinistic, and contemptuous.

You comments are completely a lie. There is NO proof of any of this being true.
Try again. Actually Latinos have been flocking to Trump in huge numbers.
Protecting the border from illegals is NOT racist.Protecting this nation from terrorists is not racist or anything but protecting the USA which is his job.
Your argument was worn out 2.5 years ago and you seem to just be finding this old crap.

A few of the very honest ones just admit: WE DON'T REALLY KNOW!

Very well said. How can someone be an expert on something that has never been in existence before? Being in the medical field for 30+ years I can say..... WE REALLY DON'T KNOW. What we do know is (as a prior UHHer said) USE proper precautions, but.... go on with life. Common sense goes a long way.

I have no price. I was a clinical microbiologist for over 20 years before I retired and never in my career have I seen unfounded hysteria like has been the case here. Not with SARS, MERS or H1N1. I have not changed my daily routine one iota and I am completely fine.

Some brilliant people on this site. Great to hear from some with intelligence and not the brain dead who are clueless without being told what to do by Rachel or Joe and Mika.
We also are out and about as much as is possible with the draconian closure of one of the stupidest governors in the USA. Parks and walks visiting with people in the neighborhood who are like minded.

I have chosen for myself what to do - and will continue to do it as long as others allow me to do it under the loosing of expectations by our Governor. I will continue to be outside as much as I want to.

And you mix and mingle knowing that the virus remains very contagious, there is no vaccine, and is not contained by any stretch.
That is good—it sure says something.

I do not care.
The virus only affects libs and old people.
Just look at the national map. The closed and stupid states are the lib ones.
The open ones are doing great and NO spike or problems with the virus hoax.
Hide in your cave and fear your own shadow.
NOT me.

The closed areas tend to be the higher density areas.
Density is higher in cities - not so much in Idaho and Montana.
In ruby red Indiana, we have lost 1482 citizens attributed to Covid-19, after losing 121 attributed the flu.

You seem to have let your politics cloud your supposed education and experience. You might consider changing your hat from red to tinfoil. Nothing you believe will change the facts... you can die from this virus.

At 81 I don't want to waste the time I have left! Life is too short to miss the glory & benefits of being out in the world. If everyone would wear their masks, practice good hygiene, & use common sense to keep their darned germs to themselves there would be a lot less risk for the rest of us!! I will use good sense but I will not cower in my house, less the bad man get me.

“The virus only affects libs and old people”.
That is information most medical experts have not released.
