How much Kemo is not being given for cancer patients? How many PAP exams were not done resulting in unfound cancers? How many much needed knee replacements are not being done. How many states still do not allow elective surgery? I know that my state does. I remember when elective surgeries were canceled every summer during “polio season”, so this is certainly a known way of dealing with panademics.

I have a male friend who is an elective surgical nurse. Seeing him around the other day when because he was not at work like usual, I inquired. How is it going? Oh we have all but stopped working except from the rare required surgery. All elective surgeries have been eliminated. He then elaborated. We remove a lot of gall bladders by elective surgeries. And because it is done by elective surgery there are few complications. The surgery is short, the people recover very quickly and proceed onward. But given two more weeks it becomes a required procedure and it is much harder on the patient both before and after surgery. More involved, more down time, more out of work, more complications. So who is benefiting? No one wins in this scenario.
