I agree with wings42, it could be something lacking in his diet;
Case in point, I have seen yellow House Finches due to their dietary intake.
Quite possible...but may be leucism....not sure
I am not a bird watcher or a photographer, but a couple of nights ago I dreamed a very vivid dream about watching a pair of cardinals which looked almost exactly like this bird. I described them to my family as "sunset" colored. They were clearly male and female, as one was slightly less colorful. I was mesmerized by their beauty, and made sure to take a photo. That was the extent of the very happy and peaceful dream. It has been on my mind since then, so I searched "pink Cardinal" on a whim, and found this. So crazy!
I actually have a similar bird at my home in north Texas right now. It is a pigment issue. A full grown male can actually get sun faded if the feathers lack something. I can’t remember what exactly. The one I have is actually lighter than this one. He appears light pink.

Seven years later- I too have a pink cardinal coming to my feeder in Cecilia, KY these days. It is mid-May and the bird seems to be full grown. Others (8-10) coming to the same feeders are of normal coloration.
