I recently discovered the Author and Copyright metadata sections in my camera's menu. I just entered my name in the author section, but I'm not sure what to enter in the copyright section. What do you folks put in there, if anything? Thanks!

Generally speaking: Copyright © Your Name YYYY
and set the Copyright Status to Copyrighted

Not all cameras will have the © symbol available. The word "Copyright" should be sufficient if not.

Check out Steve Perry's video. It explains it in simple terms.

I just put my name in the copyright field plus All rights reserved.
After all, that is the name of the field.

Put in All Rights Reserved and the year.

To get the copyright symbol, (in Windows), hold the ALT key and on the number pad, type "0169."

But you can't paste that into the camera so it can put it into the metadata.

No, but you can do a preset and populate those fields upon import into Lightroom.

Put your name, or company, if you have one, after ALT 0169. This is hex code for the copyright symbol. And date it.

All of my current cameras allow one to set the copyright info in the camera. It's one of the menu settings. Once set, all you need to do is to change the year each Jan. 1. That info then goes with the image into LR. And there's a copyright symbol in the info you set in the camera.

Can it be done if the camera is connected to the computer?

I don't know of a way to import symbols from a computer to a camera's copyright field in the camera. If someone does, I'd like to know.
But of course you can add symbols on the computer. But you have to do it for every image you move to your computer.

I just write the word "Copyright" into the copyright field.

My manual suggest using c in parenthesis--(c). That's what I do.
