I am seriously looking at Panasonic's G9 camera. Several reasons. IBS, fully articulated screen, in camera focus stacking, smaller camera and lenses, relatively high frames per second, high res in camera (up to 80 mp.
, 2 card slots, weather sealing. How much am I giving up from my Canon 7D mark II? I know I am giving up low light performance. I can't find any thing in the Sony or Canon line that matches all of this for the price.

I would like to be able to find an adapter for Canon FD lenses to Panasonic 4/3 mount. Is there such a thing?

Any and all comments and thoughts will be greatly appreciated.

You cannot find a higher performance camera than the G9. Period. FullStop.

OTOH it’s pretty big for its format. Fortunately there are really tidy little cameras that share its lenses. I only bring the G9 when I have intentions of needing it. More often it’s lenses are with me on a smaller m4/3 body.

Canon’s version of APSC is undersized so the crop factor from your 7Dii is only 1.25x, meaning you’re not giving up much in terms of resolution and high ISO noise performance. I use Canon EF-s zooms on m4/3 as they are not overly bulky but I never put EF lenses on m4/3 ... makes no sense to me but acoarst it works.

I have a wide range of native m4/3 lenses on hand. Were I lacking all those, there are a very few EF lenses that might make sense. The little EF 50/1.8 STM would be reasonable ... if I didn’t have an m4/3 45/1.8 thaz half that size, etc etc across the range. Obviously a super tele or macro for tripod use would be another likely EF transplant.

About the FD lenses. Similar situation as above but worse. Be it known that I’m a lens adapting maniac across three formats. Thaz why I can advise a thing or two:

Adapting FD lenses is a PITA and the newer the FDn/FD/FL lens the bigger the pain. FD series lenses have too many weird bits sprouting from the back end and these are not just clutter but must be properly synchronized even on a ‘dumb’ adapter.

M4/3 is the least logical base to adapt onto. Very compact native lenses are just waaaay too tempting and perform miracles that adapted lenses cannot. For example, LUMIX “Dual IS 2” is amazing but requires LUMIX “Power OIS” lenses.

When I put old manual lenses on a Sony I don’t mind the loss of a few modern conveniences all that much. But m4/3 has far more actually useful features than the Sony system, so negating even just some of those feels really wrong.

Thanks User I. D.
Certainly gave me insight into a new way of thinking about lumex lenses. I use FD lens on sony nex and sony R7. Both are long in the tooth. Thanks again

I have been adapting FL, FD-FDn lenses for MFT since the Panasonic G-1 was introduced. Also, many cameras since then and I never had an issue, that I would call a PITA. I know it depends very much on the quality of the adapters that are used. I use Rayqual adapters to mount all the Canon F series lenses to MFT and Fuji x mount. Obviously two different adapters. Rayqual's are not cheap but well made, and flawless.

Good Luck and be well.

I picked up a G9 because my Nikon D500 is rather unwieldy in a kayak and it’s become my go to travel camera. Sadly there is no adapter to use Nikon lenses except manually for focus and aperture, so I have invested a fair amount in native glass. It really is a fantastic camera.

You should also look at the Olympus e-m1 Mark II or the M1X. I have the m5 III. Olympus is known for their 5 axis in-body stabilization. All of these are weatherproof. I adore mine after being a Nikon shooter for years. They also have a wide variety of lenses. Live composite is great for night shooting and all of these have the pro-capture mode that starts firing as soon as you push the shutter halfway.

Olympus is an excellent line of cameras...The Panasonic G9 has 5 axis in-body stabilization plus 2 in lens equipped with IS. I have the G9 and it truly a pleasure to work with.

I had Canon cameras from the film to the 7D MKII with all canon lens. as I got older, I did not think I wanted all that weight to carry (500mm) around so I sold everything and went to a Nikon P1000, however I did not like the IQ from the camera. so, I went to the Lumix G9 with the Leica 100-400 lens. this is now what I use for all my wildlife photography. the camera out shines the 7D MKII by a miles, it has faster shutter speeds, you can set Shutter in Program mode, it has a built in tele-extender, a zoom feature Jpg only, it has Pre-burst which allows for catching shot not heard of with a 7D. I had a canon mount Sigma lens left from everything; I got an adapter, but it only works in manual. I wish I could tell you everything about the camera, but I do not want to write a book. You can see some of my photos here: https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/user-topic-list?usernum=26072 Here is a helpful document for the camera: https://www.wimarys.com/panasonic-lumix-g9-settings-tips-tricks/

I also looked at Olympus but found the Lumix was the better buy

Yeah, lots of menus but easy to understand and once it’s set up you rarely need the menus unless you’re using a special feature. All of the other controls are right at your fingertips. It really is a joy to shoot with.
