I got a top end Gitzo on eBay for a great price. Have a RRS two way tilt head on it. Will do anything I need...
I did the same; Gitzo series 4. Rated for something like 60 pounds.
Wood walking stick was from a maple tree limb that fell off one of my trees here in Oregon. It was free, about five feet long.
Out shooting today. I have 5 monopods. Used my old Schiansky today, 3 section, twist lock. Have not been happy with ball heads. Bought 2 different 'tilt' heads to try out for horizontal/vertical - not tried yet. Part of the issue is how often I need 'portrait' mode, what a truly sturdy ball or other head adds to the total carry weight and if I'll actually benefit from using it enough to tolerate the added weight.
My handheld D850 and 200-500 zoom are already enough weight (plus a backpack on my back). The monopod attached to the foot of the 200-500 lens is what I have used recently in the field. I carry it upside down by the tripod foot of the lens/monopod for balance and safety. 3-5 miles.
I did find that putting my right foot back a bit and using my shoe as the 'backstop' for the foot of the monopod might be helpful to you, too. I feel like I get rigidity and it allows me to work faster. Something to try?
Echo the Sirui P-326 with the Sirui L-10 head. Together just under 2 lbs and it also makes a sturdy walking stick.
I agree with Pixelstan77 Siuri?

I disagree with your statement that a ball head is of no advantage. A ball head will allow the camera to be used in the portrait configuration.
OK, you got me there. I seldom use portrait mode.

If I’m using a monopod I’m usually using a long lens, in which case it’s mounted with the lens collar, which is much easier than dealing with a ball head. The Wimberly monoGimbal is much superior.
I have a manfroto and I picked up the hand grip to use as a cane trekking to the spot. Works out well for me.
The most important thing for me is height----Mine is 72". No crouching!
