The comparison is about people’s inability to foresee, to understand what kind of a man was in power with either man. But, no, Trump is not being compared to Hitler.
The analogy is the people’s inability to know that Hitler was bad for their country, and the Trump supporters not understanding that Trump is a fraud, not a leader—is the analogy, and it holds water.
When the war was over, people will admit they did not understand Hitler’s intent; just as when Trump is history, his supporters will be in wonderment as the the man’s indecency, as well, saying “I just did not know”.
The analogy is the people’s misguided and blind response to the men, not the two men themselves.
Get it?
And it is just opinion.

At any rate, he's putting the cart before the horse. The way it looks now the democrats are working to get Trump re-elected with their bumbling candidate Biden. For all their yip yapping they had THREE YEARS and laid a big goose egg. Their words about wanting to save the country ring pretty hollow as a result.
