It's important to remember what I was attempting to accomplish when tethering the camera to a tablet. True, I've tried other apps, but none suited my shooting happens or the format/design was off. Sure I've connected my camera to many of these app but the Canon Connect app is the one that seem the most desirable with its ease of use.

I'm just a person who doesn't like to transfer anything via wifi or wirelessly. I was really pushing Canon for answers & I'm glad they finally responded. So I'm thinking of a surface go and an inexpensive tablet running on win10. I'll need to order the micro USB to Micro USB cable, a tablet holder and another Pergear ball head.

All of this will be attached to my tripod in a manor as to being able to have the live view at an acceptable height for viewing and ease of touch screen with the camera mounted on another ball head in front of the tablet. I'm fortunate to have located a late 70's Velbon tripod which has 3 ball head mounting potions.

So to anyone having issues with wanting to actually see what you're photographing on a larger screen consider my options on tethering a table (win10 based) to your canon camera using the canon connect app. However, there are many other app at google play which may suit your needs better, but these use wifi and not a tether connection.

Locate the correct micro USB to micro USB cable which I found at amazon for around 15.00. Next I located a tripod mounted tablet holder which can be used/rotated in landscape or portrait potions. Then I located or needed a second ball head. Months ago I already purchased one Pergear ball head, Now I can get another.

This set up is going to be heavy so judge wisely your shots. There are a few tripods on the market which have multiple ball head mounts but this old Velbon tripod has two ball mounts locations very close together and a single mount farther away down at the end of the shaft.

The last thing I'll need is the tablet, which might not happen any time soon. Just as soon as I'm able to gather all this and mount it up I'll post a pic unless others beat me to it.

NOTE: This image was giving to me by the person selling this tripod 1 year ago. there are three mounting location on this tripod. The main mount location, a secondary mount at the end of the shaft used for low ground shots and a middle support location. The main head has been replaced with the Pergear ball head. Then I'd attached the tablet holder there. Then using the main mount location in the middle of the tripod for the second ball head which would support the camera. Attach the USB cable and run the canon conenct app on your win10 system. Good Luck.

I can understand why you wouldn’t want to do large image transfers via WiFi or some other wireless connection (speed), but what is the downside for your application if you just want to view the image and/or camera control? I have used both a CamRanger and the built in WiFi on my Canon 5D4, and both work perfectly, and the transfer speed is not an issue for single images - it’s fast enough that it’s not noticeable. Of course, depending on what you’re doing, tethering with a cable may be fine as well, especially if you can mount the tablet on the same tripod as the camera and still be steady. The upside is there is no excessive cable on the floor to trip over, which can be a disaster, bringing down both the camera and the tablet, the downside of mounting on the same tripod is that you may want to use a mirror up, slow shutter speed and trigger the camera from the tablet without shaking the camera, and then, a separate stand for the tablet is an advantage.

One of the other reasons WiFI Control is popular is distance. USB is limited to 5 meters unless an active cable is used, and while this is probably not your application, it’s awfully handy to put your camera outside on a tripod for bird/animal photography, and it in your comfortable chair, watching the camera in live view on the screen and changing settings and triggering the shutter without spooking the wildlife.

BTW, Lightroom will also do tethering if you’re already using it for PP. if not, the Canon ap works fine on Windows and IPads. Anyway, just some general thoughts on tethering which may not be applicable to your needs.

Dear sir or madam.. (Trix) we've had this discussion before. There's absolutely nothing I want to see or hear from you as you continue to stalk my topics. I posted this comment in general to others who just might want to look into this as I have and not waste time like I did. So far it would seem I've touched at least one person who feels what I've said in my first post has worth and they might actually try this set up or they to have been having issue with other set up. Thus it is a shame I can't offer my suggestions to others here and at other forums without persons like you posting derogatory comments or attempting to discredit anything I've said. If I could delete this thread I would if I could block or even ignore you I would but the moderators and site stuff continue to allow personal like you to harass me and others at this forum and I'm very surprised that no one has taken a moment to stand with me on this cause I'm tired of you in particular continuing to mock or attempt to find flaws in my comments. One tried to help others only to be subjected to your derogatory comments or insinuations. I could careless what you have to say to me cause you and I have never liked one another since I join this site. Thus I'll have to keep my findings to myself from this point on.

What on earth are you talking about? I have never harassed or “stalked” you - I don’t have a clue who you are. And if we’ve had a disagreement in the past, I don’t recall it.

I was in no way criticizing your decisions, post or setup. I thought from your original post that you were having difficulties with WIFI on tablets or was seeking advice (rather than trying to advise others). There is absolutely nothing critical in my post, just as I said in the final paragraph, I’m simply offering some general information which might not be applicable to you, but may be helpful to others as I’ve experimented a lot with tethering in the past.

You either have me confused with someone else, or are having a VERY bad day and misinterpreted what I said or off your meds. Either way, I’ll will make a note of your screen name, and unless I forget it (which I’d certainly like to do), I will never comment on any thread you start in the future. In the meantime, I suggest you place me on your ignore list, as I’m certainly going to place you on mine.

Edit: looking back through your posts, I see we had ONE exchange that I can find where we had a VERY MILD disagreement over the requirements of Real ID licenses. At the time, you went ballistic and accused me of “stalking you”. It’s been since last August and I had forgotten, but apparently, you seem to have this “stalking” problem a lot anytime some says something you don’t like. I notice that you said this recently to A DIFFERENT member (not me) who had the temerity to ask you a couple of questions about your post. Note that I did not comment on the thread:

“Sadly due to a stalker who has been following/stalking me since my arrival at the forum, I'll have to leave this site for good. Even after being allowed to ignore this idiot, I still see their text. It's shame those whom really want to see my work, have to wade through the Bull Sh!t this stalker continues to post within my threads. Surprisingly, this stalker has yet to enter this thread and make some sort of snide remarks about the above images”

My thought is that if you’re going to participate in a public forum, you’re going to need to get used to anything that you don’t quite agree with, deal with your anger issues, quit posting or get used to “stalkers”, because there seem to be a lot of them after you. I’ve posted about 11,000 times on this site, and while I have been involved in plenty of civil disagreements, I’ve never felt anyone was “stalking” me nor felt the need to post anything such as you just did.
