I thought I would try some experimenting with some different effects in black and white with shots I was not fond of originally.

I applaud you for your effort. But for me I do not care for the results. But that is only my opinion and mine alone.

Of the 5 images here, I like #2. But rather than leaving it as dark gray, I would create it as pure black birds against a pure white sky.

Special effects very often fail to rescue a shot that you were not happy with in the first place.

I liked that idea So I tried it. A bit better but still not great, thanks.

It was fun to see how far I could push things in Light Room. I have not tried doing any special effects kind of things since I was in high school. It's amazing what we will come up with when we have a lot of extra time on our hands.

Agreed. My goal was to see how much I could push a poorly exposed image to see what was possible in Light Room. Thanks for commenting.

Of the bunch, I really like that second shot. I'm not sure that I like the white background much better. I kind of like that black on gray. If there were a way to increase the contrast so that one or the other pops a bit more, that might be an improvement. The important thing is that you are exploring limits. How do you know how far you want to go, if you don't know how far you can go?
