The virus transmits through aerosols and droplets from your breath. You would have to DIRECTLY touch particles on a surface and then touch your mucous membranes AND have enough particles transferred for a viable transfer. The risk of that is low. AND, the virus degrades fairly rapidly on surfaces over time. They can detect it on metal after a few days but the amounts and viability are much in question. They think they may be detecting just RNA residue.

The Covid-19 virus also transmits through feces and, possibly, 'passing wind'. While the virus primarily enters the body through the nose, it also can do so through the mouth or eyes. Thus, the medical recommendation to not to touch your face.

I always take the pen home when I go to the bank. That's how I have pens around the house to write with.

Meaning no disrespect I believe your analogy is all wet unless I am missing something here. One person peeing could not necessarily pee on everyone unless he tried to do that. Even still it would not reach everyone. Clothing makes no difference even if your analogy is correct. Wet is wet.

I wear a mask and yes it does protect others from me to a point. It protects nobody if I open an infected door and then write a check at a bank with someone else going to use that very pen.

My apologies if I am missing something.

Dennis, you make a good point. What I think is missing is the idea that there is no silver bullet/magic wand just a bunch of practices that are intended to slow the spread of the infection in the population. So anything you can do in a practical sense, like wear a mask, reduces one avenue of infection. Same with washing your hands, etc. after touching stuff you have no control over. It's hard for me to do but I try my best--I even carry my own pen.

Saw an interview with an Emergency Room Doctor on the TV. He said he would not use a public restroom because of the risk. His comment was that medical professionals were already concerned about the spread of e-coli. He explained that when you flush the toilet, you feel a rush of air that potentially spreads air filled with e-coli to you in the stall and others in the restroom. (I never thought of that!)

Now, this Doctor is also concerned about the volume of air from flushing a toilet that could also spread Covid-19! And he refuses to use a public restroom!

I’ve read that the gut disables the virus. It can’t be excreted in a harmful form.

At least you won’t drip in your underwear if you leave them home...

This morning while making a donut run I heard a good analogy for why wearing masks helps.

If we were all walking around naked and someone decided to start peeing everyone is likely to get wet. If they were naked and everyone else clothed, everyone might get somewhat wet. If everyone were clothed virtually all would stay dry while the one peeing would get wet.

Assuming masks protect you from me, not me from you this makes sense.

You want uncomfortable, heavy, hot and hard to breathe in? Try a military Gas Mask! Then put on whatever your choice of mask is, and think how good life is!

According to medically informed persons, a mask is a protective device for the wearer, not for others.

The answer is to wear surgical grade gloves and wash your hands frequently.

Yeah, and when you were young you always caught 10lb fish, right?
