I don't understand! What plan are you talking about?

Photography plan (20GB) $9.99
Photography plan (1TB) $19.99
Lightroom plan (1TB) $9.99

Which part needs clarification? With tax I think my credit card gets charged $10.42 each month for the photography plan. The 9.99 photography plan is Lightroom and Photoshop but only 20gb of cloud storage, fine with me as I store locally. The $19.99 is also Lightroom and Photoshop but also 1 terabyte cloud storage. The 9.99 Lightroom plan is Lightroom only, no photoshop, with 1 terabyte cloud storage.

The student and teacher plan is $19.99 for all creative cloud apps, not just photo apps.

That $10 per month plan is for Students and Teachers!

No it’s not. I have been on it for about 5 years now. I can assure you I am not a teacher and my “student” days are long behind me. The same plan is available today for everyone. There is a student and teacher discount however there is really no discount on the photography plan they pay the same as everyone else. The discounts are in the more expensive plans.

So I use LR infrequently and fairly lightly for the amount of post process I have the patience to do. Lots of presets from multiple sources. Problem I ran into is getting tangled with the subscription. Adobe shut me down unless I subscribe after an update. So I uninstalled & reinstalled LR5(the original level I bought way back when), but I need to be at 6.14 for my Sony cameras ARW files to be recognized. Is there a way to get there w/o going back into the subscription fiasco. Alternatively I could go Capture 1 Express for Sony and/or Luminar 4.2?

This might help. You convert to dng then your old Lightroom should be able to use them, and they are still raw.

I was looking at subscribing to Adobe Lightroom. The Adobe website says
"Lightroom plan - Photo editing and organisation on desktop and mobile;
Lightroom Classic - Desktop-focused photo editing"

Can you please explain the difference between Lightroom and Lightroom Classic??
Why are they providing both, or is it just that they are trying to accommodate laptop and mobile platforms??
On the same topic, I run both Windows (on my laptop) and Android (phone) so are they saying that Lightroom will work on both devices?

Thanks in advance

They are vastly different in my experience. I like the both. For professional work I like Classic. For personal work I like CC.

I have also been considering going to Light-room and have been researching lately. I currently use an older version of Elements. If you subscribe to the Photography 20GB plan at $9.99/month, can you edit off-line? Many times, I am at places that do not have access to internet, but I would still like to process my photos. Just curious.
-Thank you.

Yes. With classic the program and picture files are stored on your computer, so no internet connection is needed. There is also a way to click smart preview so the entire file doesn't need to be there to edit remotely, but I've not experimented with that feature.

Lightroom Classic also checks periodically to be sure you have paid your bill. I don’t know how often or when it does that. I have never been caught, however. I spend time in the local large black hole, the Adirondacks. That’s only a few days at a time. I do wonder if I were in Africa what would happen? BTW cell coverage for the locals seems to be better there.

The Adobe DNG Converter does work. It's just an extra step or two, which is a pain the neck (for me).

I use the photographers package that gives me both Lightroom and Photoshop CC. It costs me only about $10.00 a month. And Adobe supplies free updates all the time.

Student program?

I use the photography plan at $9.99 (plus tax) but I haven't been a student since 1971 if you only count paying tuition.
Other than that, I have been a student all my life. There's always something to learn. And the "tuition" comes in the form of the mistakes I learn from.

There is another and very significant difference to me between LR classic and LR cc: You cannot print from Lightroom CC (unless they have changed that in their most recent update, which I do not know since I do not use LR CC). You'll have to put that into LR classic or PS or PS elements to print it. Or put it into another non-Adobe editing program to print it.

Also a word of caution about editing in LR on your mobile device and then syncing that edited photo to either version of LR or Photoshop on your desktop: your mobile device's screen is not calibrated. So when you view your mobile edited photo on your desktop (whether or not it is calibrated, but probably more so if it is calibrated), do not be surprised if you see significant color variation.

This is of lesser consequence if you are just posting online or sharing, but can be of great consequence if you are printing that photo.

The $10 a month plan includes both and more importantly Photoshop. Use Classic with Photoshop on the desktop computer for the heavy lifting, CC on a tablet or phone for sharing or light editing.

I use this strategy too. It nicely satisfies my needs. I don’t use Photoshop but find good value in this plan.

Since you have the plan you have Photoshop. We're all stuck at home (unless you're an essential worker) and that could be an opportunity to get familiar with something new, like Photoshop.

To me Photoshop is the main attraction. I use Lightroom to organize for the most part. It's very capable until selection and layers is needed, just prefer doing many tasks in Photoshop.
