Old Sears T.L.S Single-Lens Rflex 35MM film camera

Many years ago I had a Pentax 1000 (film camera that my inquisitive young son removed the telephoto lens and poked the cloth shutter with a finger. I was unable to find a repairman who could reasonably replace the damaged shutter. I liked the camera a lot as it didn't cost me a great deal and (to my eye) took sharp pictures which I could have enlarged. I still have all of my old cameras except my first which was a Kodak Brownie. (I take that last, back as, my Leica M3 had to be sold to pay for the birth of my daughter when I was out of work). I now dabble with an entry level Nikon.

I had one, in all black, before I could afford a Spotmatic.
Not a bad body, for its time, and with Sears EZpay, it gave me the financial room to buy some great old Takumar lenses on the cheap.
This triggered some real nostalgia for the days when my artistic ambitions far outreached my budget.

Look it up on eBay to see if any of these are selling and have actually sold. "Sold" prices give an idea what it's worth.

If your 55mm is the 1.4 version it is kinda a collectable among mirrorless users. It is not very valuable, prices range from $50 to $100 depending on condition and how badly a buyer wants it. The lens was manufactured by Ricoh and actually is probably worth holding on to if you see a mirrorless in your future. I have owned two of them and have gotten very good results with them.

I think I owned the predecessor to that camera. From 1961 to 1964. I was stationed at NAS Barbers Point, Hawaii. Sailors didn't make much money then, so we bought a lot of stuff at Sears. Their catalog was quite accurate (good, better & best), plus they offered credit before the days of Master Card and Visa. That's a long time ago, so I don't remember all the details; however, I bought a camera from Sears and it was a Ricoh. I also bought a 135mm telephoto lens to go with it. Can't recall the apertures of the lenses, but I do remember that I was very happy with it.

If ot's your Dad's camera, do you have any of his pictures? It'd be great to make an album of that. Make sure that, on the back, you date it and NAME EVERYONE in it.
