I think you answered your own question visually. "...the colors, light and shadow, and the lines" are what make these good photos. I could care less about gas stations as a subject matter, but your treatment of these elements makes the photos something I can care about. Thanks for sharing.

I liked the colors, light and shadow, and the lines of this deserted gas station. Yep...I know, it's just a gas station..."Why the hell would you take pictures of that?"

I think we should get an electric car. I am waiting to see what VW is bringing out.
I am too cheap to buy a Tesla.

Yeah, but I live out in the sticks where it’s 200 miles to anywhere. Not enough infrastructure yet in my area to be feasible.

I like the 'floating' EXXON sign.

Nice angles! I’m curious--what are the tall red posts that say “Synergy?” I haven’t seen the likes of those here in Indiana.

Synergy is EXXON / ESSO brand for higher grade fuels with more detergents and other additives in them. The claim is that the engine burns cleaner and is therefore more efficient. I ran a test in my old Volvo a few years back and found I was paying about 7% more but getting 10% on the mileage. Note that I'm U.K. where our fuels are a much octane than yours (or were when I was last there).

Currently I use Shell Ultimax Diesel and not compared it with a standard fuel since I got my Outback, but many motoring journo's over here recommend the higher grade fuels, but note that you are unlikely to see an immediate difference as the fuel takes time to clean the engine.

I understand that. It’s the red posts that have me curious.
