I have Really Right Stuff 2 piece L bracket on my cameras. You can remove the side piece with one screw and the Allen wrench to do it stores in the base part. Mine is virtually always on my body though. Very well designed and made, but not inexpensive...

Many good reviews of tripods, heads and accessories at TheDigitalPicture.com too...

The weak link in fastening a plate to the camera is that it can twist off. If you buy an L bracket it has a ridge on it that prevents it from twisting off the camera. With the bonus of being able to swap the camera from horizontal to vertical. We have a Sunway PNL-D850 which gives you arca-swiss on both bottom and side. Plus the Sunway is relatively cheap. Just type that in for a search and you will find it.
The Sunway has one advantage compared to others - it is cheaper.
A disadvantage is that it has no "swank" value.

You may be able to find a base plate only with an arca-swiss bottom plus the edge that stops it from twisting off. We got the L bracket just to see how it would go compared to just the base plate. Didn't go any further and the L bracket is still on there after a couple of years.

So, I just want to throw my suggestion into the mix. On my D850 and D810, I use the promediagear “L” bracket. The advantage of their bracket is that I can simply add the bbx or bbg flash bracket.
Which in my experience and opinion, of course, it’s the best flash bracket made.
The brackets are well made and fit the bodies well. Good products, even if you don’t use the flash bracket.

Don't overlook the photo gear made by Pro Media Gear. They make terrific gimbal heads, tripods, ball heads, mounting plates.....actually anything one would need in the still and video arena.
I will admit, they are not cheap. But their quality is second to none.
