I believe that's a router. I have one that my son gave to me. It's a Netgear Nighthawk X8 AC5300 Tri-Band WiFi Router.
An Optimum service agent, who was really honest, told me that was one of the best around. I couldn't get it set up when I first got it but the service agent installed it for me. Works great.

Ok. So I should stick with OPTIMUM’s modem. What is I bout the exact same one or bought the existing modem from them?
BTW Thanks for your very informative reply.

Ask them if they’ll support telephony on their modem if you own it or if there is something else that you can purchase that they’ll support. Go with that. What they’ll support is the key. Otherwise stick with the rental if that’s the only thing they’ll support.

Good router, not a easy setup though.

I haven't been able to get through on the telephone. Their robot says the ARRIS 1602G. I just want a confirmation that this is a good one.

I know. That's why I originally shoved it in my attic.

OK, bought the TM1602 Modem w/Telephony as recommended by the Optimum Robot. We'll see how it works out.

Thanks for all your suggestions & help.

If you have the internet go to, US TV NOW, it is $19 for 3 mouth then $29. Now all you will have to do is get it to your TV, you do this by, Apple TV, smart TV, or long USB if your TV is equipped.

Hi!
I'm trying to cut the cord & now I'm ready to buy my own modem. Did it in FL...no problem.
However, her on Long Island, NY I have Optimum and I'm seeking recommendations for a good quality modem with TELEPHONY to be used with Optimum service.
Any recommendations, as well as suggested buying sources would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Just wanted to add my 2¢. I also have optimum and yes, it is insanely overpriced. I gave up the triple package because I never used the phone. I have been without a landline for about a year and a half, and I haven’t missed it once. I thought I would, but it was just a waste. It’s highly likely that when the cell services go down for weather, the cable will also, so keeping the phone for that is overly optimistic.

We don’t have a land line in our condo in Florida. We use our cell phones all the time and don’t miss the “house phone” there. However, it’s my wife. We’ve had the land line for over 13 years and I guess it’s just a security blanket for her.
