I need help. Received new camera today with a lens adapter. I cannot get the shutter to release. Has anyone else had this happen? I don’t know what to do.

Just a few thoughts: Is the battery fully charged? Is the lock on? In the menu, is the shutter release without focus enabled? Is there at card in the camera? Is it formatted? What lens is mounted on the adapter? Is it on auto focus?
Yes to all. I have gone over all that.
On my Fujifilm, there is a menu item called “shoot without lens”. This did the trick on mine.

I have the Canon R with adapter. Try fitting adapter to camera then fit your lens to adapter. Then try fitting adapter to the lens first and then attaching to camera body. Double check that everything "clicks" into place.
Yes, I did that. I’ve never had a camera that the shutter would not release.

Does it work with a native RF lens? ie without the adapter? Maybe you can borrow one? That way you can work out of it's the adapter that's at fault. What happens with no lens or adapter attached?
It will not release shutter if nothing is on it. It will take video.
In some modes it won't fire without focus lock.

Do you have the switch on the back set on video?
Where is that switch? This is the first day I’ve seen this camera. 🤷🏼♀️
