Pepe Le Pew in my backyard zoo.

This evening just after 8:00pm it was starting to get dark enough to easily see Venus so I want out back to check it out. Instead I found this little guy cleaning up some of the bird food that I left out for the ground feeding birds. As I walked out with my camera he showed no fear and acted as though I wasn't even there, so I took his picture. Since it was getting a bit dark I had to open the lens a bit which reduced the depth a field, but the shot still came out OK.
WOW! Good shot, but that is scary.
You're ok unless he turns his back and stomps his feet. Skunks are not very afraid of humans and rarely spray unless you frighten them; we used to find them in our garage and never got sprayed.

This was the first time I had seen one out while it was still light enough to get a picture. Most of the time I see them after dark on IR Video surveillance that I had setup to see what kind of wildlife is around. In the Video the skunk is always the boss. This little fellow was very calm and I probably could have gotten even closer, but I didn't want to press my luck (the 200mm lens got me close enough).
Here is a post from last July that shows some frame grabs from the Video surveillance.

Nice shot, if you startled that little guy, you would have had a real surprise and went right to the Shower too.ππ€π
I immediately in my cropping insanity covered the lower half and ended up with the tail looking like a flower... but my intellect, tho dulled by fear of CV-2, told me that the flower made of skunk fur would not smell like a rose.
While the saying "a rose by any other name would smell just as sweet" is true... well,... a Skunks tale by any other name would still smell.
Reflecting, this is the first photo I have ever seen depicting the "Skunk" as being a beautiful loveable animal in its natural element. Well done Ballard, good story photo, great composition with a pleasant background. You did very well and you friend posed well.

So cute and so stinky as well. Nice image of your newly adopted critter. Good luck.
Well, what a little stinker he is!
Other than some road-kills, I havenβt seen any in my area. Nice shot.π
