Living in Central NJ we don't see a lot of eagles. In fact I know of two nests, and only one that I can check out, it's around 1/4 mile from the nearest access point. So it was a big deal to get some pix of this one. I have a bunch of different shots & crops, tell me what you think. Please!

I like the first one most.

These are quite good - especially for the circumstance ! You were very focus and light challenged here. This is a very good situation to be manually focusing and to be on a monopod or tripod.

Congratulations Chris. Most of us never get shots that close of them. I have trued several times with no acceptable results but I keep hoping for a happy accident. lucky you.

I don't care if these are your first eagle shots ot your 10,000th, they are fine captures. Hope you can find some more and post for us.

Nice shots. I haven't had a chance to even get this close to eagles, yet.

Suggestion for the last 2 shots. You can try a bit of post processing and remove the branches under the eagle's chin. You'll be surprised at how much more the focus of attention will be on the eagle instead of the distraction of the "Y" in the highlight below his head.

Very well done, focusing through the branches.
Since the Eagles are sitting, you may want to try lowering the shutter down to 1/1000 from 1/2000. This will reduce your ISO and perhaps reduce the noise a bit.
Even when Eagles fly they are not that erratic and coast a lot. I find 1/1000 to 1/1250 to be as fast as I need to go. I could even get down to 1/600 if my technique was better.

Nice set however!

Outstanding, sharp captures given the tree branches.

Excellent set! You managed to get your focus on the most important element - the eye. I still remember the thrill of my first eagle shot about 4 years ago. Where in Central Jersey are you located? Just curious as I was born and raised up your way. Miss my cousins and old friends, but the congestion - not so much.

Jealousy is rearing it's ugly head. I envy you for your photos and especially how you handled those pesky branches. Well done. I have yet to photograph an eagle and look forward to the day I get mine.
