Dead external drives...
For over 20 years I have used two external hard drives--Western Digital 500 MBs and 1000 MBs. They have served five or six different computers over the years. They come on whenever the computer is turned on. On occasion over the years one or the other stops working, doesn't show up as a drive.
The first time that happened I panicked thinking I had lost innumerable files and photos. Happily when I unplugged the power cord, re-plugged the cord and pressed the little button on the back, the dead drive came to life again, with no loss of files. My 500 MB drive did the same death act yesterday... the same fix worked: 30 seconds later it was back in action. Maybe you could try that.

If you need the data off of it, I would take it to a computer store (not a big box store). I had a hard drive fail and brought it to my local store and they were able to retrieve data off it. I had to do that because I did not have multiple back-up drives -- I do now!

IF you store all of your images or files on an external drive - you need to have a back-up of that external drive.
Many external HDD docking stations have a second slot that you can clone the first drive to (Sabrent, etc).
I replicate my main RAID-5 data drive to an external Sabrent Docked HDD on a regular basis.
Also to my 12 TB RAID-5 NAS (which automatically backs up to an external RAID-5 system weekly)
You CAN'T have too many back-ups !!
Regarding your current problem: If a local geek station can repair your HDD - likely best option.
If not - you may need to send it off to a clean-room HDD data recovery $ervice.
If it’s not coming on it’s the power supply or the cable. If it comes and and gets read errors the drive is probably failing.

Are you for real? This is your second post about your dead hard drives, with no substance.

Of COURSE - he's not for real
But if you'd care to enter any helpful advice - I'm sure his dead Franken-Drive could be brought back to life.
Otherwise - your post is as irrelevant as his.

As others have said, try a different cable, then try a different port.
If that falls, open case, remove HDD unit, and put in a "toaster" dock connected to the computer.
I believe it was Wirecutter that recommend these, but as I recall, lot of negative Amazon reviews dissuaded me from considering a purchase.
If you buy a new HDD, see your other thread for my post about provisioning.

Maybe you should check some of your own posts instead of flaming somebody for theirs.

And to you Sir... AGAIN I apologize for MY ignorance and seeking to increase my knowledge by asking help from those who have MORE information than me. If it will help, I'll call the fire dept!

I was responding to the guy that flamed you. I have no problem with your question.

Thanx... still trying to learn how to function in these forums!! Pardon my ignorance! Thanx again :-)
To you and SuperflyTNT...
Saying something about what your problem/situation IS, rather than just crazed rantings, lends itself a lot more to getting advice.
So, STUFF IT, Superfly!

Funny coming from the guy who’s first comment on this thread was nothing but a complaint. Your history on here is nothing but rants and demonstration of your complete lack of knowledge on most subjects.
