PHRubin hit it right on the head. New owners probably mean new company policies, and we will be dealing with an entirely new store, with an old name. We see in time if they are open, and learn more about them.

I dealt with Cameta a couple of times, on the phone, and found them to be rude. Too bd they're gone. Competition is important.
My dealings with them were all online and fine... 2 cameras and a Platypod...

KEH fits nicely among this group of preferred o/l retailers. Mostly used, but they can get you a new unit if you ask.
After being burned too many times by the New York Camera store of the 1960's and 70's I swore off mail-order for good. But then I tried Cameta about 20 years ago and was pleasantly surprised they were honest and delivered what they advertised. I have done business with them since -- always a great experience. But life changes and so do we. Sorry to see them go. Gland we still have The "A" and the "B" of it, along with KEH and MPB -- all run the way we wish all businesses were run.

Regardless of all that, if it opens with new owners there will be a new corporate philosophy. You will be starting fresh with an unknown factor.
Right. A "new" Cameta would be an unknown, just like any new business. Numerous famous and beloved photo dealers (and manufacturers) have gone under, only to see the name revived by bad operators.
You can only hope that a good operation is carried on by a new owner. Opening up any business after its namesake has gone under is an act of faith.
I wouls stick with B&H or Hunt's Camera. A new ownership will never replace Bill Cometta.
