It was probably me with my Mamiya RB67.

There's no way you could fire off that RB67 as fast as the D850. That would sound more like mortar practice. I used to shoot a Mamiya 6x4.5

Yes, it’s not very fast. Separate cock and film advance levers. No “ready, fire, aim” with that camera! Made you think before you shot. Never used the Mamiya 645, but i did use the Pentax 645. Nice format and a great camera.

Love the manly sound of my D850, when I am out shooting with buddies in Florida wetlands and a rare bird flies by, they can tell when I'm shooting, in fact, the entire preserve knows when I'm shooting. My D850 is a man's camera, not a baby wipe like the silent Sony a9. Yes, folks know when billnikon is around.

Probably scaring away all the animals, plus those A9 people have a lot more keepers.

Yeah, I still have my 645's. Three bodies, all the lenses, eye level finder etc. etc. Love the camera and the format. About three times the size of 35mm. I used to shoot slides with them, pure magic on a light table! Haven't used them in years now but I'll never get rid of them. But it would be hard to call them wildlife cameras. Next step, medium format digital?

Yeah, I've seen those. Very tempting but "only" 33mp. My D850 does better than that. I would have to find something with better than 50mp to be a significant step up. I know they are out there but it would be nice to be able to use the glass that I already have. Don't tempt me. I've promised my wife that the D850 is my last camera.

It's not all about megapixels.
There is a “look” you get from using a larger format camera.
(More than slumped shoulders from the weight)
For starters, a bigger sensor with the same amount of pixels means less noise, and you usually get more dynamic range.

Yes, back in 1973 (you do the math) when I graduated from high school, I told my parents the Mamiya C-330 they bought me was the last camera I’d ever need.
LOL!!!!! I think the joke was on me...I've lost count.

Same as you with my 700, 800e, 850, and ultimately my Hasselblad. When that makes an exposure, there is no doubt the shutter has been tripped. That is, as long as one is not using mirror lock-up mode.

I've used silent shooting on my D850 when doing focus stacking and interval shooting, but otherwise, no. I actually love the sound of the D850 shutter (strange, huh?).

The D850 is an incredible machine, has not failed me in any photographic task. Oh, I take lots of bad images, but the camera never lets me down. From 120 deg down to 20 deg in all kinds of environments.
