There are still so many good online dealers - Hunt's, B&H, Adorama, KEH, Roberts, Samy's, MBH - just to name a few. Patronize the good ones and you can expect good customer service and return policies. I've heard Cameta was on that list, and it's sad every time our choices become smaller. But any of the above are still good choices, and I'm sure I'm leaving out at least one or two.

They are talking about “Cameta Camera” not Camera Camera.
Is that similar to Pizza Pizza?.
Roberts usedphotopro is a great place for used deals, and unlike many sites they list camera shuttercounts. Bought my D3S from them.

It's not a matter of losing sleep. It's losing another resource. They, every so often, had better prices on used items than the other outfits.
Again, there are SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO many choices out there. Yes, Cameta is GONE, but, ebay has so much more than any camera store, and it all comes with a 30 day return policy for the buyer.
And,again, so many choices out there.

EBay has lots of overpriced listings though. Some eBay listings say " no returns" and with most listings, you are taking your chances that the seller is both knowledgable and ethical. Some listings also say that the buyer pays return charges...
According to their listing on Yelp.com, they were due to reopen Saturday, March 14th. As most of us will remember, that date was sort of a turning point in Covid-19 actions in New York, and many other locations.
Right now, I think it's reasonable to conclude that their plans were changed.

When the old owner of Cameta closed down late last year, We all thought it was sold and was going to re-open early this year. But now with COVID19 dominating the scene and the brick and mortar store located in the heart of the one of the worst hotspots for the disease, the same "coming soon" webpage that has been up for months is still there.
I really liked the store and if it is gone, then its a loss for a lot of us. Anyone been able to find out if we'll actually see a new Cameta anytime soon?

That's a shame. Cameta was an excellent source of refurbished cameras - new cameras, too. I'd hate to see it open with new owners and the same name. Look what happened with Abe's of Maine.

They can say NO RETURNS until they are BLUE in the face, the FACT is buyers have 30 days, this is backed up in writing by ebay. I have bought and sold on ebay for more than 15 years. They have great customer relations, I have sold over 500 items on ebay without a hitch.
There are camera stores selling used equipment that cannot come close to ebay customer service.
I also use a lot of COMMON SENSE when using ebay, if it says no returns, I simply do not order anything from them.
Being a Long Island guy, I bought from Berger, Cameta and other shops that served the Long Island photo community. They all had great and knowledgeable staff along with services to meet a photographers's needs. Sadly due to age or simply lack of business (and COVID19 is not helping either), more and more are closing their doors.
Until this year, you could see folks write about ABC as the Big 3 in NY (Adorama, B&H, and Cameta). It looks like we're down to just "AB" with other stores scattered around to provide local and mail order photo needs. Sad, but true.
It may be a loss to a lot, but there are others. The biggest problem is the unknown medical catastrophe that occurred just as the new owners were getting ready to initiate their business. However, the cautionary approach is to question what the new owners business model was going to be. I'm sure that when the store re-opened it would not be exactly like the old one. Again, it was just bad timing that would be the major issue.

Yes, eBay has a lot of used and new (frequently gray market) cameras to buy. When selling however you have to be very aware of scams which are pervasive. I recently tried selling a camera on eBay. The only offers I got were scams a few of which I accepted. (you never ship until you get paid). If you click accept eBay registers a sale and they bill you a fee which of course they are not entitled to because there was never a real sale. Then you have go through the process of getting a refund
Losing sleep is not the point here. Smaller camera stores like Cameta are very important to the photo industry. It would be a shame if Bill Cameta did not reopen.

I dealt with Cameta a couple of times, on the phone, and found them to be rude. Too bd they're gone. Competition is important.
