Rusting away in fields across the country are numerous types of farm equipment.
To me there is an art form that is a challenge to find the right composition.
This is one of them that may bring back a few memories for some farmers.

Yes, seeing those old mechanical marvels from years ago was enjoyable for me too. During the early eighties I developed a fascination with rusty farm equipment and started gathering what I could from around my place out in the country. For some reason or another my collection began to be centered around the John Deere company's products made earlier than 1940.
Every year or so I'd select one from the barn and restore it, was always a very interesting history lesson as well as finishing a nice restoration of a piece of history too.
When retiring and moving to this retirement facility a couple years ago my farm auction sold twenty five restored "square nosed" John Deere tractors plus pounds of associated equipment. One buyer drove halfway across the country with a tractor trailer rig and bought three of my largest tractors. He would send photos of him driving them in parades every once in a while. It was fun but glad someone else enjoys them now.

Seeing the variety of old machinery, I find rather fascinating and memorable. My step-father was very old school and used many different machines and equipment in his business and life. He had machines with PTOs, and others that were loaders, digging machines, trucks and even one that formed 8X8X12 inch concrete construction blocks. Some machines were modified in some way to make it more suitable to his needs.

It amazes me the ingenuity some of the owners used to modify their equipment to suit their needs. There was not the variety of machinery or money available as is now back then. Had to make due with what you had.

In my Navy days I got to talk with some of the old timers. Like the time one of them told me the drive shaft
of the propeller on the ship was vibrating too much. They stopped the ship disconnected the shaft. Pored
new bearings, lapped them to fit and continued on with the voyage.

I've tried to do shots like that but have never found the right composition - you certainly did!

Very nice shot of this old engine. Only things of note are the carburetor is missing, and there is an alemite grease fitting on the hub wheel facing us.
