All right, I own a Flashpoint Zoom Li-ion R2 TTL On-Camera Flash Speedlight For Olympus, as well as a Flashpoint R2 TTL Transmitter for Panasonic and Olympus Cameras.

I recently bought a used Olympus EM-1 mark ii, and seller "threw in" a Olympus electronic flash FL36R, a Nissan i40, and Mcoplus speedlite MCO320. I have no idea what I have or how I might use it.

Tell me what to buy. Or if I should chunk these new lights in the trash. Is it possible to control these as extra flashes?

I apologize for the seemingly elementary questions, but I am truly lost and I would appreciate any suggestions, even the snarky ones.

Thanks.

The fact that the seller threw in an automobile with the photo gear is pretty damn impressive. Better deal than I ever got. OK, if I must be serious, you sound like a beginner-novice level photographer. If I'm anywhere near correct, that laundry list is virtually impossible to make sense of, even for a more experienced member. I wouldn't even know where to begin, so I don't have a solution for you. Hopefully someone smarter than me will.

I agree with your assessment. I am new to this forum, but I am a member, both past and present, of several other forums. That experience has given me some insight into forum members who find it necessary to make snarky or sarcastic comments directed at other members. They are passive-aggressive people who try to cover-up their own feelings of inadequacy by belittling other people. You don't demonstrate your expertise by pointing out the failures of others; you demonstrate your expertise by mentoring those who need your help.

There surely have been some wonderful and helpful technical suggestions made to this question. In a time where so much has been changing it is great to see that one thing has not; that is the overwhelmingly positive responses from quite a few of the members. It is encouraging to know that most members really do want to be helpful. From me to the bunch of people who sent advice and (to me) messages, thank you.

Okay, I've read your comments and have many to thank. I apologize if I leave anyone out.

First, a small defense of myself. I'm not a novice photographer, though I've mostly avoided flash till now. In the 1960s, as a teenager my proudest possession was a Rolleiflex my oldest brother had given me (well, except for my Besson euphonium, but that's another story). A couple of years ago, I invested in what I thought was a good starter flash for me, the Flashpoint and a transmitter. I've used it a little, but flash is foreign to me, and I'm still learning.

Steve DeMott suggested the Strobist three part tutorial, and that seems to be gold. I'll be working my way through it for a while. E.L. Shapiro writes of Excessive trigger voltage and I’m going to have to study that for a while to understand it. :-)

I’ve been fascinated by lighting for a while but the funds always ended up going to a new pro lens, or a photographically oriented travel vacation. Now that these lights fell in my lap, I’m anxious to learn.

My thanks to all of you.

Oh, and I don't mind a little snarkiness. A small price to pay for the knowledge on this forum.

You sound like a wise man, patient and unafraid. Good

As my boyscout troop leader would say (60years ago): At ease diseases there seems to be a fungus amongst us.
