I guess I'm the only one for #2!! But that is my choice. I think it because of the contrast

My thoughts, exactly.

Of the two that you see, not a third.
I can barely see the 2 Jim posted.
OK Fine - - of the diminutive thumbnail images posted, #1 works best for me

I'd go with the lower contrast and super sharpen it. And then send a download.

Given the size of the images posted, we all might as well be

Wow, they look fine on my laptop.
Like a 3R print.

Well that explains it. Your laptop must be the same size as my cell phone ??

3-1/2 x 5 is not objectionable, I grew up with 3R prints.
I measured it, actually 4x6 on my screen with no screen magnification.
133% fills my browser window.

On my screen the actual image of the moon is 3" in diameter.
This parks almost unnoticeably in the upper left corner of my 35" monitor.
Right Clicking and downloading the image as posted reveals an ENORMOUS file size of 20KB.
I can expand it just a little bit before pixelation sets in.
Such a TINY thumbnail makes any real determination of quality unreliable at best.
The images should have been posted with the "save original" box checked.

You no longer make any meaningful replies, nor offer any logical rejoinders to my comments. The images as posted by the OP are insufficient to answer his questions. Anyone can take snapshots of the moon. With the OP's equipment (Canon 1dmk4, Canon 2x II, Canon 500 f4), he should have uploaded, at minimum, 5MB JPGs for review and comment. I think you and I are done here.

Which of the two seems easy enough for me.

Have a great evening.
