Control + A will highlight all then just hit P or check.

I've already told Barny about the "Select All" option - what does "P" do?

(EDIT) - Just found out. What does "Flag as Pick" mean?

If something is moved to a different location, having LR be able to follow it there.

As long as you move it in LR it does that. If you move it outside of LR it can’t know what you did.

When I open a folder to import the files there is a button to "check all" the files in the folder. When I come to export these files there is NOT a button to "check all" to export all. They each have to be selected individually in the Library by "control" "left click". This can take some while because for me some folders can contain 100-200 files. It could also lead to RSI.

You click the first one, hold down the shift key and click the last one. That will select everything.

Several years ago I spoke with Thomas (original creator of P.S. who name is the first on the list when you open P.S.) about adding content aware. It seems they are just not interested in moving away from the non-destructive formate and the mathematics to make it work are just too complicated. I agree with all of you, I simply don't understand why it can't be an option using the PS model. For a while, I thought Adobe was moving to making LR THE software to go to for photographers and leave Ps for the other designers. I guess not. At my age (74) I'm just not too interested in going to all the trouble to learn another program. I'm having enough difficulty using these too.

I would like to see an option to include 'CAPTIONS' when printing a photo from LR. I know I can add them in Photoshop but it's a pain. Maybe there is already that option but I can't find it.
Thanks

I suppose it was inevitable that the "non-destructive" mandate would be a reason for excluding some functions. There's probably a workaround if they wanted it but for whatever reason the will isn't there. But they could still include things like rotate and flip for clone tool patches - if they wanted. And making things accessible via the Adjustments brush is an obvious one to go for - if you seriously want improvement. Perhaps there's just too much money to be made from photographers who want Ps just for the photo editing capabilities that Ps has and Lr doesn't.

I'm not familiar with Lr's capabilities (or lack of them) where adding stuff is concerned, but isn't there some way to add signatures and the like?

That sounds like a handy alternative. It would be useful if you wanted to select some but not all of them.

I arrived late to this discussion and was surprised to see no one talked about performance problems that never seem to get fixed laggy draggy sliders and delays in seeing the changes. I'd love to see this fixed once and for all. It is very hard to use the sliders to make subtle adjustments which then show up delayed.

The second one is for windows users who also use a Wacom tablet. there is a very old problem with windows ink, Wacom and lightroom. If you check windows ink on (required for pressure sensitivity), then the delay and jumpy sliders is further exaggerated. If you turn windows ink off the sliders work better but you lose pressure sensitivity capability. This has been a fingerpointing situation between Wacom, Microsoft and adobe for several years now. The windows ink does work in photoshop with no problems..

Thanks for joining in, Lloyd. I can imagine that better performance will be on quite a few people's wish list. My own experience is that performance did improve when I increased my ram to 16MB. It could probably do with going higher. Are you running it with graphics hardware support activated? It's not always an improvement. I've been considering trying running it with smart previews. They warn us that doing so can reduce the accuracy of what we see on our screens, but that may not be critical.

I have 32 gb memory and a 6gb video card which sometimes helps and then usually gets sluggish and I have to turn it off. I've got 2 SSD drives and an I7 cpu and it is disappointing to me that inspite of claimed performance improvements there is still laggy sliders which make it very difficult to see and make subtle adjustments....and the Wacom windows ink is another pet pieve that lives on and on..

I would say that the biggest improvement would be to integrate Lightroom and Photoshop into a single non-destructive program combining all of the features of both programs along with many of the suggestions already made. Currently I have to export my LR edited files to PS and then move the PS edited files back to LR. That is time consuming and cumbersome.

i'd like to have a "save button" so you can make changes and save it W/O printing or exporting

That doesn't sound like a system that should be experiencing performance issues. It's hard to tell what the problem might be. I have a lesser system and I get delays only intermittently. Perhaps if I try smart previews and I may have improvements to report. Whatever the issue, I'm sure it's something that Adobe are aware of.

The trouble with that is that much of Ps's capabilities aren't compatible with a non-destructive environment. One possibility might be a form of Lightroom where there's an extension for Ps-style editing. That would mean relinquishing the advantages of non-destructive editing once the extension has been implemented, but that's probably a compromise that most would be willing to make. But as Photomac said, the trouble is Adobe's lack of inclination. Plus the technical challenges may be prohibitive.
