Click on the single window, there is a good chance your window isn't actually open to the fullest, it happen on my google chrome also

I have the same issue with LR and my Mac. The only way to quit LR is to click on the word LR and I get the quit LR option. I don't get it.

Sounds like you are in LR full screen mode. To do this press the F key and to toggle it off press the F key again. Good luck.
