If all the images used are photographs, then it is still a photograph. Computer generated images come entirely from the computer with no photographs involved. Photographers have been making composite images virtually since the invention of photography. They have always been considered photographs. Why is it different when it is done on a computer instead of a darkroom?

I guess---as long as they are using their own photographs.

The difference between who you are and the photographer you want to be is really just your ability to PhotoShop.

I don't use PhotoShop, or any other Adobe products.

Did you mean Vericolor?
Verichrome was black and white and and I loved it!

This was shot on film. (Probably T-Max 100) Pretty much a straight print. Not digital, other than to scan the print.

Vericolor. Sorry about that. Sorta like standing in front of the fridge with the door open-- and asking--What am I here for?

Seems like now days almost anyone with the Photo Shop and all the software on line consider themselves a Photographer. Seems like with all this software anyone with a little computer knowledge can doctor up a print. So many go out claiming to be Wedding and event Photographers then go into a software and make things look good. Would anyone without this software consider themselves a true Photographer? What did you do before all this software?

If someone sees photo images and opportunities everywhere, and always has a lens (camera or smartphone) at the ready, and demonstrates a sense of composition, color, and perspective, and can't imagine life without a lens, that person is a photographer.

Ansel Adams and Edward Weston, to name just 2 of many, masterfully edited their images in the darkroom. Manipulation using the tools at hand. Then came digital and software.

Then there are the snobs . . .

So what you are saying is, every successful photographer has voices in their head. Creepy...

I certainly hope so. If we can't laugh at others responses, especially the amusing, facetious or peculiar ones, what's the point?!

"True photographer" is open to interpretation. Ansel Adams was a master of masters at manipulation. Yes, it was done using film. But if you think, if he was still alive today, he would stay away from Photoshop, I think you would be greatly mistaken. If it is good enough for Ansel Adams, it is good enough for me. Should we all shoot to produce photographs that require the least amount of manipulation? Of course! But I think it is always hard to get any shot absolutely perfect, straight out of the camera, ever single time.

You talk as if no one fiddled and diddled with pictures in the old dark room!
