Overlook Bar - Cartoon Walls in the Age of No Social Distancing

New York City has its share of eateries and bars. Costello's on East 44th Street was a hangout for some famous folk but especially great cartoonists. Wednesday was submission day and many got together to share experiences. James Thurber decorated the walls with his cartoons but they did not survive. But one glorious and drunken day in 1976, cartoonist Bill Gallo gathered many friends to decorate the walls with your favorites, at least if you are a geezer. A highlight is Mad Magazine's Sergio Aragonés drawing of a troop of Mexicans not exactly obeying their commander, but so much more. Other cartoons were added in later years. I am truly sorry for the quality of many of these cartoons - very dark with spotlights outmatched my meager photo skills. Now this bar is the Overlook and the beer will (again) be cheap, once our travail is over. I'll try and post some cartoons that specialize in biological evolution. Stay well my friends.

Very nice! It would be good to have the full-size photos to get more of the detailed stuff. Is there any possibility you could repost and include them?
Thanks!

If you mean closeups I do have some more. Will post the ones on evolution soon. Just a few others I am afraid. I would love to have been there that night when they drew all of that. Will return some day. Thanks for comments!

The close-ups would be good, too, but what I meant was to include the original full-sized photos of the ones you already posted. When you post a photo, you can check a box that says something like "include original" -- I don't remember the exact wording. If you don't check that, we only see ones that have been reduced in size to fit on the UHH page.
