Chromebook and Zoom

Have any of you used a Chromebook with Zoom? Someone in our group uses one, and she has trouble hearing the sound - always asking the leader to turn it up. Then everyone else has to turn it down. Her on-screen picture isn't very good, either.

We had a family get together on ZOOM the other day, I believe a chrome book was on with no problem, I know there were I phones, I pads and Win10 computers in the conference.

We have used Zoom alot lately, since Corona made us keep away from other Friends & Family. There is usually a "Host" that controls the meeting, rotating the individual people so everyone can see everybody, the Host can also control the Sound and Video, each individual may also control their own Video & Audio, if they possibly do not want to be seen or heard online, although they can still listen and see others in the Zoom group they have access to at the time. Also, all individual viewers must know the "Log-in" code and a "Log-in" password, both provided by the Host. I hope my explanation is accurate and helps those interested in a Zoom meeting, just how it works.
I also use my Chomebook Laptop Computer to our Zoom meetings.
Also, a low volume may be from your individual Computer, that you yourself must control to your Individual needs, And I do not know for certain if the "Host" can control any one individual's sound volume.
The Host is or should be very familiar with the Zoom program and what they must do on their part to make a meeting run smoothly.😊

I have a Logitech camera that I borrowed from someone. It is a great picture but is a wide angle and I look like I am far far away whereas others in the conference have a full face picture. There does not appear to be any way of adjusting it. Thinking of getting one with a less wide lense. Could anyone recommend such a camera like that.? ( pulling the camera closer helps, but not nearly enough}

Yes, I've noticed that in Zoom, although I know some people are sitting far from their phone or computer. The pricier cameras let you adjust the viewing angle. A wide angle shows more of the house, which wasn't necessarily made spotless before the meeting. I like the background choices in Zoom. Two of us had the Hawaiian beach, and a librarian looked like she was sitting in the NY Public Library.

Select >settings>audio & video>webcam settings>camera control>zoom

Thanks. Apparently, since it is someone else's camera, I do not have an option to use those controls. Would not me download what I think would be called a driver, or the software.

And all encryption and data is fed to china to be reviewed by a staff of 700 people in research and development

If you also have the software loaded you might be able to control the display.

I know the logi C920 does.

My wife and I had the same problem this morning. We discovered it is not the computers fault nor the hosts fault. The ZOOM app itself has its own embedded volume control. There is an area in the lower left hand portion of the screen that has a menu to test speaker volume. Problem is, you can select various speaker/headset/system combinations but it DOES NOT offer a way to adjust the levels. THIS IS A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH ZOOM. I had to GOOGLE it and another big hassle. Virtually every query leads to some issue concerning video, not audio. I forget how I resolved it but if you search for something like "How to adjust ZOOM audio volume" you will get how to do it. A box will come up similar to the box for "Test Speaker Volume" but this one will have controls. We turned it all the way up and can now easily use the volume control on our computer to adjust the sound.

I've experienced the same issue of ChromeBooks not being able to hear but not with Zoom. We have had the problem with FaceBook Messenger and today with Skype. Maybe it's the ChromeBook.

Yes, I have to a Chromebook 15 model # CB5-571 and have no issue with volume during our meetings.
