Grand Canyon Rediscovered

I visited the Grand Canyon in 2014 for the first and only time. I took hundreds of photos and published a 120 page Blurb book of my South Rim adventure. Like many of us, I am now revisiting old photos to see if perhaps I missed a quality shot during my initial editing. This photo was underexposed and was totally lacking visual interest. However, will a some cropping and conversion to B&W I think I found a new expression of the scene. My processing was also enhanced by filtering through the Nik Collection Silver Efex Pro.
The photo was taken with a Canon 5D MkII with a 24-105 mm L lens. This camera has long since been replaced by a Panasonic GX8 with very satisfactory results.

I didn't do much in B&W until about a year ago when a health issue for my wife stopped us from traveling. Looking for a project, I decided to revisit old photos and see which ones might work in B&W. I found 150 shots that I thought would work and created a Blurb book of exclusively B&W. I was a very rewarding experience and also a time consuming one. It would make even more sense today.

Use a brush tool to highlight the top border and open exposure to remove the darkest areas.

Your shot gave new life to B&W ..., an excellent shot for sure .., I noticed a ton of spots ..dirty lens / mirror,/sensor ..? .., so I removed them ...also a lens glare spot to the left upper tree ...and a strange zigzag looking white thing on a mountain slope ..as well as straightening out the horizon ...
As for the shot ..., just excellent ... just needed a little clean out .., that’s all .....and a slight Ed.
I apologize if I’m overstepping my bounds here ..., I just love the shot and thought it could even be better as YOU shot it , with removal of a few distractions ...
I’m sitting here in my living room on a “Stay at Home” order from the boss .., my wife .., so too much idle time ...looking at your photo gave me a reason to not be bored .., thnx ...

You are spot on! (Pun intended) I was working on this at about 2:00 a.m. last night and totally missed the spots. I also liked you other suggestions and will be reprocessing. Not sure I agree with the straightening but I will double check.
Just curious, what are you doing to revive old photo projects? I can't seem to find a new theme. I had some down time a year ago so I decided to go back to my external hard drives where I have about 2,500 of my better/best shots. I reprocessed about 600 photos to bring them up to my current skill level. I grouped the photos into categories (people, city scares, buildings, religious, eclectic, etc.) and did a 3 volume series which I titled "That's Life, Volumes I, II and III". (Hard cover coffee table books printed by Blurb) The project took me 9 months and helped fill a lot of time. After that, I got the idea for B&W so I found 150 shots that I thought could be interesting in that format. Now I'm stuck. Any suggestions for a new project would be appreciated.
