clearly stated that you “endured” WW 2. There is a difference, I guess.
If you are 90, you were 15 in 1945. So, those WW 2 years that you “endured” is the reason you are not a candyass whiner today, and can appreciate good insensitive humor.

If I were freshly unemployed, with a family to feed, I would be saddened by the joke in the original post, not amused.
Empathy still should have a place in this screwed up whiny ass country.

The greatest bailout in the history of mankind is just starting to roll out. I have gone broke several times, and always recovered. I like to count my successes, and not dwell on the failures, but failure is always an option.
I have empathy for those if difficult times, but success can always come from failure. The first thing to do is to research all of the help available from the bailout. It should go a long way to helping those in need. But, help should not include all of the luxuries that the younger generation is used to. Those are not necessities and are not in the spectrum of survival. Learn to survive and prepare for the worst. Then when it does not happen, you will always be ahead of the game.

One can still see the humor and have empathy.
Unfortunately not most.

Thought this was funny.

It is with great sadness that I have to mention the loss of a few further local businesses around my hometown of Stirling and surrounding area.

The bra manufacturer has gone bust, the specialist in submersibles has gone under, the manufacturer of food blenders has gone into liquidation, a dog kennel has had to call in the retrievers, the suppliers of paper for origami enthusiasts has folded, the Heinz factory has been canned as they couldn't ketchup with orders, the tarmac laying company has reached the end of the road, the bread company has run out of dough, the clock manufacturer has had to wind down and gone cuckoo, the Chinese has been taken away, the shoe shop has had to put his foot down and given his staff the boot and finally the launderette has been taken to the cleaners

Thanks Blair - humour can be the antidote to extreme situations - but empathy is always essential - they are not mutually exclusive.

Good morning Rath,

No offense (although possibly there is ?) but to hell with those who feel this observation is "childish", in poor taste, "offensive" etc. Can these narrow minded individuals imagine what it was like (I can because I was there - 90 years old) to have endured WW 2 without an exquisite and resilient sense of humor ?
Very sad - a nation now consisting of whining, politically correct and pampered "pussies". Those with whom I fought and served would be ashamed of this current generation. Putting up with our current crisis is rough enough without having to deal with these very sensitive a-holes. Keep 'em posting - I think the observations are terrific.

All the best to you and yours,

Terry

Sure, having served in WW 2, and so gracefully reaching the age of 90 gives you the absolute right to be insensitive, and crude. These lay-offed unemployed people trying to keep their children fed must be amused by the jokes about their situation—to be offended would demonstrate they take themselves too seriously.
Your toughness and lack of empathy is admirable—take a bow and don’t get infected. .

My main man. Great to see you “stand-up. Have a great day.RJM

I am a small business owner and am struggling, but I still thought it was funny and creative. I know things are very bad in the real world but that doesn't mean we have to be grim 100% of the time.

I just came back from driving through Manhattan. Very few people walking through the streets. Only stores open are coffee shops and grocery stores. I never left my car. I've never seen Manhattan with less cars on the streets.
