I was thinking about installing LR Classic (have a 2 month free trial offer), but was worried that it might mess up my LR6. Should I be worried? Thankyou.

If you use LR Classic it will update your LR6 catalog. It will give you a new catalog and leave the old one behind.
If you edit anything in LR Classic it will use the new catalog. If you return to LR6 afterwards, the edits in the new catalog will not be available because LR6 will not read the new catalog format.
The new software installs 'beside' and never 'over' the existing software. The new software will prompt to ingest / import the existing catalog data from the old software. This import (migration) makes no impact on the older software, where the old software remains unchanged. The new software doesn't even remove the old launch-icons for the old software, so make sure you don't get confused on which version of the software you're using during the trial period.
If at the end of the trial you decide not to upgrade, confirm the DNG version your older software can ingest and export all work done in the new software to the DNG format. These DNGs can be imported into the older catalog, transitioning both the images and all the edit information.
You can also use "export as a catalog" to save any work you've done in the trial catalog. Then use "import as a catalog" and the meta data will import to your older catalog. If the images are not in the older catalog you will also need to link them up to the catalog. I think you might find that the newer catalog with the subscription is the way to go anyway, as the software will have additional features and you have the availability to use PS when you want to learn it. And, as someone else has said, be sure that you don't get your catalogs confused as that seems to be easy for people to do. I'd suggest you delete the entire old catalog once you determine that you want to use the subscription plan and the older catalog is converted to the new plan. Keeping old versions of LR can cause issues with not knowing which catalog you are in if you are not paying attention.
Be warned that there are enough new tools, techniques and features in Lightroom Classic (version 9.2) that version 6.14 will not be your favorite anymore. Using your free trial will ruin you for staying with 6.14. Plan on spending the $10 per month for a long as you enjoy photography.
If the new stuff in Lightroom Classic doesn't set the hook deep, try doing an Edit in Photoshop for just the "Content Aware" removal of something ugly in an otherwise good photo. You also get tools for the odd moment that the only camera you have is your phone. Take the picture and it will be in Lightroom Classic before you get home to your computer.
Just want to thank everyone.

I had LR 6 on a laptop (still do) and I put the Adobe CC LR/PS on my desktop. Then when I opened my laptop I had LR6 being "updated" to LR CC.
I contacted Adobe - the problem was their computer's update function recognized my account by did not differentiate between the two versions of LR.
The solution was (free at that time-now????) to set up a second Adobe account with a different e-mail address (I have a total of 6 or so from things over the years since the early 90's.) and have LR6 on one and Adobe CC on the other.

Sorry to bother you, but when the LR Classics imports the catalogs are the old catalogs still available for LR 6? Thanks.

Yes.
But the question is why are you concerned with keeping LR 6 on your computer? The current software is so much better, and not about to be "orphaned" by Adobe. Oh, and you get Photoshop as well, so you can actually complete the work you start in Lightroom. Lr is not an image finishing software application. Photoshop is.

Yes, it will cause problems for LR6 - you probably won't ever use it again!

It won’t interfere. It copies and converts the old catalog.
That said, all the subtle refinements might knock your socks off!
