Whatever you end up with you will enjoy taking photos of yr grandchild...
It has been fun for me as well...
Their level of cooperation will vary widely as they grow.
The 3 yr old tends to frown
the 5 yr old needs to be bribed to engage
the 8 yr old will now participate ( partly cause I gave her a digital camera )
A lot of fun. I very rarely crop photos... believe me you will when shooting active kids.
I'm looking forward to it. As I posted a bit earlier, I'm leaning towards the f1.4 with IS. I'm sure the f1.8 (much cheaper) is a great lens for the money, but with the situations I'll be shooting (a lot of it low light) the added f-stop and IS will likely be a nice thing to have. I will probably end up getting a Canon re-furbished unit from the Canon Store (that's how I bought a couple of Speedlites and my 6D). I'm not in a big hurry, so I'll watch the store for a good deal. Up until a couple days ago they had two deals you could apply to that lens and get it for $1079. I suspect that later in the year there will be better deals. I have a birthday coming up in August - maybe I'll get lucky and they will have some good deals then - or maybe for Christmas.
