Godox, Flashpoint, Bolt -- same units -- all are good and inexpensive compared to OEM flashes. The top of the line in these flashes with all the bells and whistles you would expect from a manufacturer like Nikon is around 189.00 compared to almost 600.00. There are other good flashes in those lineups that start under 100.00.
Have a D7200 and several flash attachments which I almost never use because the built in flash is very good in usage similar to yours. If you want more, I find the Metz 24 AF 1 to be a nice compact option. Don't forget to remove the lens hood when using flash - I often forget. I also picked up a used Nikon SB 28 which I only use a couple of times a year for "jobs".

I think the best value for the money is either a Godox brand or the Yongnuo brand.
The Godox TT685N looks to be pretty good for your camera. Do search Google for information and price.
Whichever brand you go with, make sure you get the radio transmitter for it so you can set the power level on the flash. You definitely want something that can do high-speed sync.
I have several of the Yongnuo brand, and have never had any trouble with them.
Good luck and stay safe.

Second the Godox and Yongnuno.
Do want a basic flash or one with more functionality? The Nikon SB-500 is an excellent basic flash. It has led lights to assist when shooting video. From there you can go up the the SB-700 and SB-5000 which have much more functionality. I have both an SB-700 and SB-5000. I like that the SB-700 has a TTL/Manual/GN switch on the outside. No need to go into the menus to switch.

I also shoot with the D7200. First, the major drawback of the on camera built in flash is the light is very harsh and no way to bounce it to soften it. It all depends on how much you want to spend. You could go with a Nikon SB700 or SB500 Those will run you almost as much as your D7200. Those would be top of the line units. If you are shooting proffesionally and using flash a lot they would be the way to go. If you are just looking for a speedlight to play around with and experiment and learn with. Or you just want a speedlight to throw in your bag for the occasions you might need it Youngo or Godox are good values. I own 3 Flashpoint R2’s, they are Adorama’s branded Godox units. I use them for on location shooting. First of all they are cheaper. For the price of 1 Nikon SB unit I was able to get 3. I have had them now 2 years and used them on multiple shoots. I bought them to experiment and learn with. That turned into a small portraiture business. I primarily shoot sports(I don’t use them for sports nor would I) but am also now doing 2-3 headshots and portraits a week with them. I also do High School senior portraits with them. They can do everything the Nikon brand will do. Will they last as long as the Nikon brand? Probably not under heavy shooting. For occasional to moderate shooting maybe. I bought all 3 on sale for under $200 so I am ok with replacing them if needed.
I recommend go online read the reviews, and pick up a youngo or Godox/Flashpoint try it out for short money to see how much you will even use a flash. My biggest concern before I purchased was spending $600 on something that would just sit in my bag if I didn’t end up doing much with flash photography. I never intended to make money with them. It just happened.

Look at Nissin (Japan), too.

I added an SB700 to go with my D7200. Much easier to use than my SB600 and now I have a two flash option.

(How many more will miss the fact that the OP has made a decision ?)Good choice!
Just so you’re aware, the pop-up flash on your D7200 can be used as a trigger to fire your SB-700 off-camera and you can control it from the menu in the camera. Just make sure you orient the sensor on the flash to pick up the “commander” signal from the pop-up flash. Ask if you want more info on this.
